Many people may have heard about this controversy. Especially if you watch the Tyra show religiously. Anyway, it has been stated that as a mater of civil rights gay could be considered the new black. Want my opinion? You must if your taking the time to read this. I'm pretty sure I only have like... two people who actually read this.
But, is gay the new black?
No.
It is a completely separate battle. Gay people were not forced to sit in certain seats on buses, or un-allowed to use the same fountains and bathrooms. (at least not openly or legally) Gay people were not held in captivity and oppressed for generations (unless you count the Holocaust, but everyone was fucked there) On the other hand, black people were not denied the right to love someone (unless they were white x.x) Black people do not have to hide being black to serve our country. Black people did not have to deal with a retarded proposition that took away rights that have already been established. There are similarities though. There was and still is prejudice against both peoples. Both have been beaten up for being themselves. Both have turned away from home and job opportunities, even if not openly. And both have been blamed for aids. (blame the druggies if you ask me x.x)
So no, gay isn't the new black. Gay is gay. We're still people. We deserve our rights, we deserve not to have our rights openly taken away! Gay men deserve to be able to give blood! Straight people get aids too you fucking retarded blood banks! They test it before they give it to people anyway!... sorry, that's a point I feel very strongly on.
But yeah. Have your own opinion on if the struggles of gay people and black people are the same. But know that it is a struggle for gay people. I want to be able to ask a girl to marry me one day. I want to be able to have or adopt children and have them legally be ours. I want to be able to share a mortgage, and be on her insurance, and see her in the hospital if she gets sick. I want our (hypothetical) love to be recognized.
Support my rights!.... please?
