BIRDS

So. Despite not feeling well (or perhaps because of) I went for a walk to get some fresh air (and because the apartment is very warm!). I wandered off and saw a couple Canada geese at the end of the street, one honking at the other - they seem to show up there every year, pausing both ways for a break during their migration. I'm pretty sure they're a mated pair the way they act.

I turn the corner and just as I'm passing the driveway beside the school I see another bird. I'm not sure what it was, though - didn't have my glasses on - but it was either some sort of dove or a small partridge hen. It was a beigey colour with some black and white just at the ends of the wings (or tucked under them, or it was part of the tail - my eyesight's getting worse, apparently).

As I'm getting back to our building, I spot three rock pigeons. Just plain normal pigeons. Two males with their metallic-coloured heads and a smaller female with less noticeable neck colouring. I notice one of the males is doing the mating dance, then watch the female wander off and he's... still doing it. To the other male. Who, after a few moments, returns the attention in kind. I've never seen two male pigeons court each other. :P

It did make me kind of curious about the sexes of the geese. Shame male and female Canada geese look identical. :P

Doing some reading, the beige bird looks like it was probably a common ground dove. Also, rock pigeons apparently mate for life, which I didn't know.
