It's certainly counter to his particular brand of wealth-amassing social circle of highly paid lawyers and politicians. Pro-Bono 1) undercuts their profits and 2) provides a method for the less wealthy to sue the wealthy, thereby further jeopardizing their profits.

It's great for the lawyers! If nobody sues their clients, their clients don't need to hire them for defense!
