Tonight I came home determined not to satisfy my hunger with either meat or food-I-bought.
I had a row of spinach in a window box that was trying to bolt, so it was time to harvest. I knew I had some fresh strawberries, so I went outside to dump the compost bucket and snip some strawberries.
Of course, I had to check on the rest of the garden, and pull some weeds.
My potato plant was killed in a recent storm, so I decided to pull it up and throw the stalk in the compost. Up with the roots came the two prettiest, firmest new potatoes that you ever did see. None of the mush grocery store crap.
And about a dozen strawberries.
Tonight, I feast. Meanwhile, the tomatoes are growing in the sheet-mulched part of the garden, and they are some of the biggest, stoutest plants I ever did see.
