It’s been a long time since I’ve written here! I’ll write something about my actual life later. This is all about a fanfiction exchange, which is way more exciting than my actual life (blah blah blah SHOWLESSONS OMG same same same) anyway.
Dear Primetime Player,
This is my first time doing this particular exchange, but I’ve done enough of yuletide to learn that story exchanges are the most fun and exciting thing ever. I’m going to try not to be overly long-winded on this one. I’ve chosen fandoms and characters that I love, and I’d be happy with any of them. I love stories that deal closely with the relationship between two characters, be it friendship, romantic, familial, or anything else. Plot is lovely, and feel free to include as much or as little of it as you want, but character dynamics are what really interests me.
I’ve also included a “Get out Of Jail Free Card” which each of my fandoms - basically an out of left field prompt dealing with different characters, incase after reading my main prompt you just feel overcome be writer’s block and need to do something completely different.
Now, onto the fandoms!
Les Miserables (Movie or Musical)
Characters: Eponine Thénardier, Cosette Fauchelevent
I have seen Les Mis so many many many times. Well, probably less than some of the more hard-core (and rich?) Mizzies out there, but I did manage to go see it live six times the last time it played on Broadway, and I’ve seen the film twice. I’d love to read a story that explores the characters of Eponine and Cosette, their differences and their parallels. The story can be about them interacting if you like - when younger, in an AU moment where they meet in the musical, or whatever. It could also be just one character thinking or talking about the other. In the musical we get a bit of Eponine’s thoughts on Cosette, but what about Cosette’s thoughts on Eponine? Perhaps Marius tells Cosette something about Eponine, and it triggers a whole slew of memories for her. I tend to like a slightly less sugary sweet portrayal of Eponine than she’s often given in the musical - still basically good, but I like seeing her rough edges exposed. I’ve also read the book, so feel free to draw on or not draw on that as much as you see fit! The musical is what really has captured my heart, but I’m very fond of both of them.
Get out of Jail Free Card: If you’ve just read all of this, and are feeling massive sign-up regret, and you’re being attacked by writer’s block and just need to do something else - Do Grantaire. I don’t mean do him, but I really like the character and if you need to just throw Cosette and Eponine out the window and write about him instead, that’s absolutely fine.
Newsies (1992)
Characters: Jack Kelly , David Jacobs
New fandom, full of more new fannish enthusiasm than I know what to do with! I love the David and Jack dynamic. I ship them together like mad, but I’m also okay with gen. friendship fic. The kind of stuff that I like to read about with them is basically intense friendship verging on something more, and maybe sometimes crossing the line into romance, but only just. I’d rather not read anything very explicit between them, just because the characters are too young. It’s also worth noting that if you don’t like them as a pairing and want to keep Jack with Sarah, I’m fine with that. I’m not into stories that pair the characters up with OCs.
The plotline and such is up to you. I do have a huge thing for hurt/comfort fic, so if you wanted to do something terrible to David and let Jack fix it, I’d undoubtedly love it. It wouldn’t even have to be terribly terrible - you could just send the Delancy’s after him or give him a nasty (but not deadly) illness.
Something with some backstory for Jack could also be interesting, or something about how he fits in within the Jacob’s family. Does David ever try to call him Frances? Or something about how David fits in with the other newsies could be cool. Jack and David come from very different backgrounds, so it could be interesting to see how something that is normal for one of them is viewed in a very different way through the other’s eyes.
Besides David and Jack, I’m also very fond of all of the other characters in Newsies, so feel free to include them or not in any way you see fit. I’m somewhat less interested in Spot, so I’d rather not read a fic that focuses heavily on him, but he can be around/mentioned if you want.
I’d prefer historical fiction to any sort of modern AU.
Get out of Jail Free Card: Background story for any Newsie. Relationship story about practically any two Newsies. Something about how Jack met Medda, or what she thinks about any character. Anything, except for something with a heavy OC or heavy Spot focus.
A Song of Ice and Fire -
I love this so much I don’t even know what to say about it. It’s amazing and I… just don’t know what to say about it.
The separation of the Stark family fills me with this… um… indescribable emotional longing. Characters just keep coming so close to re-uniting, and it never happens, and it just kills me every time it fails to happen.
I’d really love to see what would happen when (and if) Jon and Arya were to meet again. This could be any sort of meeting you want. Maybe it’s after the series has finished. Maybe it’s AU where at some point in time Arya gets away from the people who are leading her this way and the other, and makes it to the wall. Everything is up to you. I imagine that the emotions of the meeting would be very different depending on what stage in or after the books you decide to set it in.
