So, the story begins last night. There were some dogs barking and yelling. Cops were called, but I had no idea what was going on.
Apparently, my neighbors on my left side had called in about something and there were cops there. It might have had something to do with their dogs. No one really knew for certain.
Fast forward to today. My neighbor to my right has a habit of wandering outside his home to talk on the cell phone to discuss business. He had met up with the woman who lives across the street for me. They were chatting, when suddenly, the woman BOLTED for her house. My neighbor on the right said he looked up to see my neighbor from the left swinging a pistol around.
He yelled to my neighbor on the right, "you fucking shot my dog, didn't you?" according to my threatened neighbor.
Apparently, someone had shot his dog with a bb gun the other night. My neighbor had no idea what this was about and tried to talk him down, which he succeeded in doing. After my gun wielding neighbor was convinced it wasn't him, he turned around and said, "It's the guy behind you then! I'll fucking kill him."
The guy behind me, being my neighbors behind my house.
Here is the basic map of what went down.
So the guy with the gun went back into his house, according to the guy who was threatened. It was at this point my mother saw the gun and told me to come take a look. So I did, but I couldn't see by then. I could go out and check, but I'm not about to go out unarmed. I sneak around the backyard and try to see if my gun-wielding neighbor was truly appearing to be unstable or not. Things were quiet, and I didn't see him. My mother came out a little while after and asked if I see anything. I tell her to get back inside and ask if she, for sure, saw a gun or not. I heard something that sounded like a nailgun going off and didn't want to risk any kind of confrontation.
As I hearded my mother into the back door, I heard my neighbor come out back, yelling. I didn't see a gun, as I didn't want to risk my neck, but he was yelling "I'll fucking kill him!"
At this point I ran to the phone to dial 9-1-1, because if there's a guy screaming threats and he may be armed, it's time to call the cops. The cops tell me there's already been a call placed. Apparently the neighbor across the way ran into her home and dialed 9-1-1. My threatened neighbor too went back into the house as soon as he could and called.
Shortly later, I saw about 3 police cars parked out front. My mother said there were more down the street she could spy from the windows. Several police officers had taken up position around the guy's house. One straddled my dad's car and had his service weapon pointed at the neighbor's house.
I saw at least one officer with a rifle.
The police cars moved to block off the whole street and I was effectively trapped inside the house till an all clear went out.
The officer who took up a position outside my front door came over when the police managed to confront my neighbor and talk to him. He asked me for my name and details of the 9-1-1 call I put in. He told me to stay in the house for now.
My mom saw the man with the gun talking to the police, but he was still holding his pistol.
Later, the police confiscated all his weapons and took him on an ambulance to have him checked over at a local hospital. As soon as the police were pulling out and I saw my neighbor across the way and the threatened neighbor talking out front, I went out to ask what had gone on.
The police man told us that the guns are out of the house and the gun-carrying neighbor might be back in a few days, but it appeared the danger had past for now.
A few minutes later, as we're catching up, a red accord rolls up with a man and a woman. The man claims to be the neighbor's brother and asked what happened. We tell him about the dog and the gun. He seemed apologetic, but also drunk. He checked on the purportedly shot dog and said he didn't notice anything wrong. He left saying, "I'd stay away from my brother, he does drugs."
Comforting to know, most certainly.
We all chatted a bit outside, my neighbor from out back came out and we all discussed what the hell was going on. After collecting our thoughts and exchanging contact info in case something happens, we parted our ways.
And that was today.
