I just finished re-recording the narrational bits for Darth Reid, and will get to recording the character dialogue to two or three days time.
The first time I read it, there really wasn't any preparation. I actually recorded it without asking permission. At the time, I was still considering if I'd take the story on as a project. I guess that first read was a test run to see how I would handle the character voices. Since a total of six people talking was intimidating.
Pre-read process for Diplomatic Immunity ("DI") is still underway. I still need to make the pronunciation sheet for the spells--thank you IPA chart--and go through the story to find any sentences that could flub me up. What I have finished is highlighting the character dialogue, who says spells, and who's talking.
I'm under serious considerations to have other people do the dialogue bits for some of the characters.
First reason is the sheer size of this story. I don't want to delay this project for next year. If I did the characters myself, I would have to record character dialogue separately if I want to get it right(ish). Yet that is also more time in editing, doing one or two voice every few days.
Which leads into the second reason: the sheer number of characters. Seventeen different people talking to put it more specifically. A few of them are one time talking parts, but there are times during some chapters where five or four people are conversing with each other. I'm still new when it comes to voice acting, so it'll take time to get all the different characters straight in my head. But I never find I'm always a 100% spot on, and I'm imagining it's only going to be worse when it comes to seventeen different voices. :S If the dialogue comes down to me, I'll figure it out.
Third reason: it'll be a good lead-in if I really do want to create a fanfic-based radio play. I know how to put in sound effects--and yes, I most probably will be putting some sound effects in DI where I deem appropriate. Can't say how much though?
Obviously, this is my big big project. :D
