So, the other day
faded_lace and I were talking, and she asked me about what I thought about tenipuri pairs and how they'd segue into using first names. Thusly I (which a small amount of convincing/poking) decided to attempt writing them.
“Er…ah, Mizuki-san? Would you, um, go out with me?” Yuuta asked, absolutely sure he was becoming more red with every word.
“Hmm?” Mizuki looked away from the TV program they were watching. “We’ve been going out for the past three months, Yuuta-kun, why do you feel the need to ask me this now?”
Yuuta’s mouth dropped open. Mizuki ‘tsked’ and used his pointer finger to close it again. “Honestly, Yuuta-kun, I insist you pay whenever we go out to eat, we’ve gone to see every new romance movie that’s come out recently, and you come to visit me every night, how could we not be dating?”
“But I-we-and you never and I didn’t-”
“Yuuta-kun speak in complete sentences or stop acting like this is something you’ve never heard before,” Mizuki replied with a shake of his head, before suddenly halting and looking at Yuuta once more. “Unless…you didn’t realize, Yuuta-kun?
Yuuta shook his head, no, and wished he wasn’t currently sitting on Mizuki’s bed. Because if they were in his own room, he could hide under the covers with his shame and wait until Mizuki disappeared.
“Nfu.” Yuuta glanced up, only to have it confirmed that Mizuki was indeed laughing at him. He looked down again as it continued. “Nfufufufu. Yuuta-kun, you can be so adorably naïve sometimes.”
Yuuta had no idea why he liked this person. Then he remembered that here was no good reason, except that he was Mizuki-san.
“Yuuta-kun. Yuuta are you listening to me?” That got his attention, and suddenly every fiber of Yuuta’s being was concentrated on Mizuki. “As I was saying, Yuuta-kun,” and Mizuki’s smile worried Yuuta just a little bit. “Since you’ve been clueless these last few months, and I really should have realized it sooner, we’ll just have to start over from the beginning but I’ll make enough changes that even Yanagisawa will be able to tell there’s been a change in our relationship.”
Yuuta suddenly wished he’d kept his mouth shut.
“First, Yuuta-kun, I will formally say yes, I’ll go out with you. Second,” a pause for dramatic effect, as Mizuki would say, “from this moment forth, I will simply call you Yuuta. And thirdly, a kiss to seal the deal.”
Before Yuuta had fully comprehended everything Mizuki had said, Mizuki was right there and in Yuuta’s face and pressing his lips to Yuuta’s. Yuuta turned bright red and jerked away, resulting in his tumbling off the edge of the bed.
“Yuuta, are you alright?” Mizuki peeked over the edge of the bed and fuck he really had dropped the suffix and Yuuta had wanted to date or something but he really hadn’t been expecting that and maybe he actually should have been because Mizuki liked to pull shocking things like that all the time.
“I-I’m o-okay. I think. Maybe,” Yuuta sat up, rubbed the back of his head, took one look at Mizuki and decided maybe he needed to be elsewhere. Right now. “Mizuki-san, I think I’m going to go back to my room.” And before Mizuki could reply Yuuta was up and out the door.
“Yuuta!” Yuuta was barreling down the hall at full speed as Mizuki finally got to his door and called after him. “Tomorrow we’ll go on our first date, okay? I’ll wait for you after tennis practice!”
Yuuta felt himself blush again. Really, what had he been thinking?
