Miscellaneous Thissing and Thatting

The wrist continues to heal. Took off my brace for a shower today (for the second time [not the second shower, the second time taking off the brace]) and it was less scary, can do more. Hoping I will be close to well by the 15th when I leave for London.

Disadvantage of working at a university: I am now way older than the parents of the incoming first-years.

In a few days my little nut Vince will turn 3. When I think of all we've been through together, where we were one year ago and two years ago I feel pretty good. No more crate, ever. He has the run of the house when I'm home, sleeps in his own bed, and has calmed down considerably. He still has his tricks and manners, but I suppose I have mine, too. I catch myself being happy to see his little head and pet his velvet ears. Who'd have guessed.

I was already into some really bad eating habits that became much worse after my folks died. I don't know if there's a connection but it feels to me like there is. Finally I took the bull by the horns and started on a meal plan which is a really good fit for me. It's been four weeks and I am happy with the arrangement. Details on request. Coolest thing about my meal plan: there's an app for it. Yes.

I've heard the iPhone described as a gateway drug and I'm here to tell ya. My travel laptop died out of warranty and I broke down and bought a MacBook Air. The coolest of the many cool things about it is the case I bought which looks like an interoffice envelope, but leather. In brief, I am awed by how Right Mac gets the engineering and hardware, the look, the feel, the use value. Everything from the packaging on up is just so perfect. Inside, I'm whelmed, but no more. I don't like my operating system enclosed in a bright shiny shell. I was perfectly happy with DOS and still haven't reconciled myself to Windows. But it's been 25 years so I guess I'd better get on with it, eh? The MacBook and I are still getting to know each other but so far so good.

In keeping with a decision to put up more of a fight, I had my hair colored so there isn't any more gray. No one noticed.

It's still true that I only go to the office to water my orchids, but soon even that won't be true. They're remodeling my floor, and I'll be at home exclusively until after the holidays, and then I'll be relegated once again to a cubicle. So my glory office-with-a-window days will draw to a close. I can't complain, since I only go to the office... see above.
