Halloween Hi-Jinx by
Annee Jones My rating:
4 of 5 stars I picked a Halloween-themed ebook to read last night. It was a mere novella, which means I knocked it back in one sitting. Eh. It was Halloween Hi-Jinx by Annee Jones, the first in the "Holiday Pet Sleuth" mystery series. The main characters are Clarissa and Jinx.
Clarissa has taken a job managing the local cat cafe. In an effort to raise funds, she's organized a Black Cat Bash for Halloween night. In the meantime, a couple surrenders their black cat, Jinx, to the cafe for fear he's cursed. They claim to have had a string of bad luck since they adopted him. Clarissa thinks it's silly, but when money goes missing at the bash, it seems that Jinx may have earned his reputation. Unwilling to take the fall, Jinx takes it upon himself to lead the humans to the clues that may pinpoint the culprit and save the bash.
An amusing, light read for Halloween. It was too short to get much of a feel for the characters, but not much back story was required. Jinx is adorable, as are the other cats in the cafe.
Favorite line: "Sometimes it's just a matter of finding your place in the world."
Fun story, four stars
