ever notice how time flies as you get older? it seems only yesterday when i was back home on the sunny island of guam...*sigh*

what's new with me? well, i can say that the grad student honeymoon period is officially over. now it feels like i have a giant elephant named 'stress' on my back everyday. when i'm at work, i feel like i should be doing more work. when i'm not at work, i feel like i should be doing more work. at this rate, i'm going to burn out within the next year and yet i have no idea how to stop it.

not everything is gloom and doom though. over the break i've come to realize how lucky i am when it comes to friendships. i mean, i can name more than a dozen people that i still keep in touch with whom i've known since i was little! liam can't even name five. i mean, i've grown up with these people. we've sang nursery rhymes together, played jump rope together, and baked fake food together. all those sleepovers... at a friend's house, at hotels during prom. do you realize how rare this is in the states? anyways, it was nice to revisit old friends back home and in hawaii. it reminds me to keep things in perspective.

one thing i have missed, though, is female company. i don't have very many female friends here (you know how the saying at tech schools go: the odds are good, but the goods are odd). i loved going out to dinner with the girls and gossiping away into the night. i know i've told april a million times, but before we watched 'bride wars', i hadn't watched a chick flick in a long time. it was wonderful to just relax and laugh with a group of girls during a movie (and tease them when they cry...i'm looking at you cathy!). then i went to hawaii and spent hours just chatting with satoko over everything and anything (we talked about weddings for a long time, go figure).

so my life update, in short:
grad school = stressful
friendships = ^_____^
