cautiously optimistic

That pretty much sums up how I feel about Fall 2008. The beginning of grad school and start of college football has me looking towards the future with cautious optimism. I'm too old to be displaying the kind of exuberance that I once did at the start of every semester - sure that this time things would be different and I could change it all around... making promises to myself that I would no longer procrastinate with my work or put having a social life before my studies. I'm now "mature" enough to realize that work takes time to complete, habits require patience to form, and mistakes aren't as easily forgiven. This isn't a cryptic message or a cry for help. I've just been thinking a lot lately and realizing that I've grown up in the past 2 years (and even became less naive).

So. Why do I say I'm cautiously optimistic? I think it's because I hope for the best but understand at the same time that things may not turn out the way I want them to. Take last year's football team for example. I was ecstatic about them...some would even say obsessed...and the team absolutely tanked in the second half of the season leaving me devastated. This year I spent considerably less time reading the football forums and agonizing over our opening game (though I still highly anticipated it). I have hopes that we will do well this season but won't be crying (too much) if we don't ^_-

Grad school is another example. It is a completely different atmosphere than undergrad. As a PhD student, people tell me that "grades technically don't matter". Yet, I am working harder in this one class I'm taking than the entirety of some semesters at Cal. It's a programming class and I tell myself that I'll need this skill in order to succeed in HCC. Hopefully this will turn out well in the long run and be worth all the blood, sweat, and tears.

Finally, I haven't gotten around to fashion blogging yet. I really enjoy all of your posts though so please keep them up! I wear almost the same thing every day (shorts and shirt) because it's still summer in ATL (though this year is MUCH better than the previous years). Though, Liam did buy the cutest Tokidoki hat for me.

I'll guess I'll end by saying that Fall is still my favorite time of year :)
