Grad school update

MS Michigan - Accepted into MS
MS UC Irvine - Accepted into PhD (!!!)
PhD Georgia Tech - Waitlist

And those are the only three schools I ended up applying to. The story behind Irvine goes: I applied to the Masters program there and about a week and a half ago receive a letter from this professor who is moving from Michigan to Irvine. She saw my application, was interested in working with me, and asked whether or not I had ever considered going into the PhD program. I talked to her on the phone and said yes, I was interested and voila. This professor and her husband are actually quite famous in the field that I’m going into and I hear they’re great to work with. This is a very exciting development. AND they’re giving me $1500 in an “relocation incentive” if I decide to matriculate. Not much, but every little bit helps ^__^ The school is flying me there next week to visit the campus and meet my potential cohort.

So now it looks like (and I suppose it’s always been this way) that my choices of where to go will pretty much be made for me depending on whether or not Tech gets their act together and tells me yay or nay. Funny thought: maybe I shouldn’t apply to Michigan ever again. It seems like I keep applying there, getting accepted, and ending up not going. Maybe it’s like having a relationship with a boy - reject them and they want you more..haha. The same can probably be said about Tech. If Tech were a boy, and he knew how much I wanted him, he would probably take his sweet time playing hard-to-get with me.

This weekend is going to be the ONLY weekend in March that I’m in Atlanta. The first weekend of March we went to Chicago to visit Liam’s sister. That city is awesome! I mean, there’s always something going on every weekend - even during the winter there! And they have really great museums and public spaces. I really love going to museums! We are probably going to go back sometime in May/June and visit some more places. We were able to go to the Chicago Art Institute and visit the Hopper exhibit there. I have to admit that I’ve never been a fan of Hopper, but I’ve learned to appreciate what he does and why Liam likes him. He’s still not a favorite of mine though. What was a favorite to do there was visit the throne miniature room and admire all the miniature model rooms on display. I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I believe I have a God complex. haha.

Last weekend we took a road trip to Charleston, SC where my coworker’s parents own a condo. Charleston is a really quaint southern town. It’s also really old. Lots of houses with columns and old architecture.. really pretty but a little chilly while we were there. I hear there’s a lot of old money in Charleston - the kind of place where you hold a debutante ball for each of your daughters and invite everyone from the yacht club to come. Very peaceful and idyllic. We’ll probably go back when it’s warmer to take advantage of the beach.

Work. It sucks the life out of me. I think I’m getting Chronic Fatigue Syndrome from it. I hate how I’m always so tired everyday at work.. then I come home and suddenly I’m ok.

In other news, Super Smash Bros Brawl is so much fun! I’ve been playing it everyday when I come home from work. Another reason why my fatigue at work is puzzling…
