It looks very grand, certainly. For the coronation of the Emperor of your kingdom, right?

Well, something like this is actually much less complicated than what an emperor would wear, but this general style would be for such an occasion.

Do you get to see at least one coronation per generation?

Mm, it depends - our kings are immortal, so it's really anyone's guess when one will fall. It's really a better thing if you never see one.

So they are immortal and stay that way until they fall? That sounds like a really long term of service with no retirement plan.

A king is more a god than human, really, once they receive the Mandate of Heaven. The only way one can stop being king is when they die.

A person can become a living god . . . That's an interesting mode of kingship you've got there.

It's not so unusual when it's what you're used to, but it does seem to be pretty specific to home. Anyway, it has its good and bad points, but it works well enough.

This is when people start to wonder about stuff like fate and destiny. Are people destined to occupy such positions?

Mm, the ones who become kings are those who are judged to be best for their kingdom at that time. Who knows if they would have been picked at some other time? It's an interesting question, really.

I've had someone ask something similar once . . . he was already a god though.

What was your answer then?

I would have gone for all of the above if there was an option for it.

Ah, really? What were the circumstances, if you don't mind my asking?

The options were Fate, Choice and the guy with the type-writer. I thought there might be a bit of everything involved.

Mm, I think I'd have to agree with you. Half of what people call fate seems to be more about being in the right place at the right time.
