So, according to a news article here, around 5,500 US Servicemen have deserted since the Iraq war started.
If you believe this news article, desertion in time of war is punishable by death, according to Military Law.
See, we have the servicemen that we do because joinging the US Military is a great way to get Citizenship, a college education, plus a sign-up bonus all in one. Of course, there's always that small risk that while you're enrolled, oh, hey, we may just go to 'war'...
It's actually a fairly nice deal. I even considered enrolling when I was younger. Then, y'know, 2001 and all that and I said "screw that, I'm not fighting".
