~The Trucker~
He’s driving on the road
Been eight long hours
But he’s still got two more to go
Then he’ll be able to rest
Just to close his eyes
It’s a lonely job
Very little people to talk to
Too much time spent in that truck
Thinking of the family he has at home
Yet still he drives on
Knowing he’s got people counting on him
To bring the load right on time
Knowing his family has everything they need
Waiting for him to come home
He pulls into the truck stop
Finally able to stop for the night
Does everything he needs to get done
Gets something quick to eat
Then reaches for the cell phone
Dialing home he waits for someone to pick up
He just wanted to call to say that he’s alright
They talk for a few minutes
He smiles as he hears about her day
Then sadly he says Honey I need to go
I love you, she says, please be safe
After that he’ll turn in for the night
By his self in that truck
He knows before long morning will come
And on the road he’ll go
Even though he wishes he was at home
But he knows that his job is
And what he needs to do
He’ll head off for another long ten hours
Knowing soon he’ll be home
