All politics aside, i really think that Turner Classic Movies is one of the few reasons to ever get cable.
Last week i watched The Court Jester and just now i got to see An American in Paris in all its Technicolor amazingness.

If you've never seen it, it's something really special - both of them are. Court Jester is a re-telling of the Scarlett Pimpernel and Danny Kaye at his finest. Ever graceful, ever quick, eloquent and flexible, Danny Kaye is just awesome as is the very young and beautiful (and decidedly un-Jessica Fletcher like) Angela Landsbury as the princess.

An American in Paris is the triple crown of amazing movies. The footwork of Gene Kelley, the music of George Gershwin, and the direction of Minelli (not to be overlooked is the rampant art inspiration of Toulouse-Lautrec in the sets of the big finale)

They just *DON'T* make movies like that anymore. Noone dances like that anymore (I mean, except maybe Christopher Walken...but i find that creepy - sorry, Chris). It's just sad. In light of the garbage Sci-fi channel churns out on a regular basis (I believe in the awesomeness of b-movies, but REALLY people!) They could be making new movies as spectacular as Forbidden PLanet. Instead, we get SuperCroc.

Thank you TCM for reminding us how great it once was, and that we don't have to settle.
