Today, I purchased a new laptop to replace the aging and probably-soon-to-die You love Chinese food., the laptop I've had since October 2001. It has served me well, but the power cord is having issues and, well, I need a laptop. Bought another Dell Inspiron, because, well, it would be odd not to when this one has been with me so long. At first, I was looking at the Inspiron Minis because they were cheaper and more portable--which suits my purposes more, but they don't have optical disc drives, which is kind of necessary. The Mini would make for a good laptop when I'm older and have another computer in my office but want something portable.
My tax rebate will be paying for the computer, which is scheduled to ship in two weeks, but I suspect is Dell giving it a lovely window in case shit goes wrong somehow. When it arrives, I'll have to adjust to Vista and the newer version of Word, which I absolutely detest. Plus, there's the moving all of my files over (which won't take that long, actually, since most of what I want to move are word documents and those are small, so I can fit a LOT onto my flashstick).
I'm amused that my hard drive is increasing by 16 times... going from around 10 GBs to 160 GBs--and, yes, I've never really NEEDED more space. But, more space is always good.
I'm really just sentimental and attached to You love Chinese food. I've had it for so long and done SO much on it. So much writing. I met my girlfriend on this computer. I wrote my novel on this computer. I wrote two award-winning one act plays on this computer (that's technically true). I've watched DVDs, written reviews, written comics, went through undergrad and grad school...
But, it's better to get a new one before this one dies.
Still... wish it didn't have to be this way.
