Rock Show

Last night.... Last night was incredible.
I finally made it to The Toads Tavern (www.toadtavern.com) to see my friend George play with his band Kelli Said (www.KelliSaid.com).
George and his wife, Karen, are clients of our Agency. They are great people and in the early 30's (I think). George is the Bassist of the band and is quite a riot act on stage. He is a lot like a little kid that is completely lost in something that he loves. Watching the show brough back so many memories of all the continuous concerts that I used to go to back when I actually did the things I want to do.
Watching people completely get into it while on stage or in the close crowd, what a good time. I need to do that more often. When I first got there, a girl and her guitarist had just gotten up on stage and played some great drinkin music. That gal could wail some notes. Then after a long discussion with a guy at the bar about his brother that lives in the tiny town of 12,000 people called Waynesville, NC (my hometown, what are the chances), I made my way to the front in between sets to find Karen.
Watching Kelli said on stage completely took me away from everything else in life. I watched Kelli be a total rocker chick, their guitarist throw out some riffs, George jump around like an ADHD kid without his ridilin, and their rhythm guitarist havin a good time challenging the other guitarists on stage. In the back of the stage was the drummer, which was hard to see with the other band members in front of him. But a great job to him as well.
The band played a few cover songs from the 80's to stick to the theme of 80's night at The Toad. Mixed in with their cover, they played some original songs which were great. A few beers and a few slices of pizza always helps you get into the music a bit.
As the band packed up all of their equipment after the show, Karen and I talked quite a bit about the band and their individual backgrounds. Turns out the lead guitarist that I was ranting and raving about has only been with them for a year and is not on their cd. Let down... Oh well. They will come out with another. I met Kelli and had a chance to talk with George a bit. I bought one of their cd's and bailed to come home. I got outside and there was a light dustin of snow on my car. I put in their cd and brushed off the car as it warmed, then headed home. What a great night. I really miss getting into shows like I used to. Music used to be everything to me.... Well, music and cars. I got the car Ive wanted, so now time to go back to some of the music. I will attend their show again probably the weekend after next. Next weekend they are playing a cover concert downtown somewhere. Not sure if I will make that one.
