Rental vs purchase.
For the wedding, I'm looking for doublets for the guys. I'm trying to keep costs to a minimum. Inexpensive doublets are kind of hard to find. Rental wise, the guys in the wedding party are pretty good sized. XL at least I'd guess. To begin with, I've found that few of the rentals are that big. Even fewer are larger than that. The temptation is to make tabards for the guys. Nicer ones. Not just plain cotton, something more like either suedecloth or maybe velvet.
If we're going to make something, it could be more along the lines of a coathardie-- a longer wrap style jacket that ties with a belt and/or buttons up the front. We could probably use the Anderson sleeves. For that matter, we could probably put different sleeves on each one per the choice of the groomsman. I kind of like that idea.
I'd also like to set the best man apart from the other groomsmen somehow. That could be done with trim I'm sure. Perhaps a "fancier" pair of breeches.
I suppose there's still time to make some of those decisions.
