Female Saint Holding a Book (c.1510-1520) Amico Aspertini (Italian, Renaissance, c.1474-1552) The Walters Art Museum, Baltimore. A noblewoman of Bologna might have commissioned Aspertini to paint her as a saint as an expression of religious fervor and of the ideal of holiness to which she aspired. Posed in a contemporary, Renaissance costume, her hair covered by a veil and a net, she holds a book in imitation of the Virgin Mary, who is often depicted with a book. Aspertini was known for his eccentric style, which is seen here in the odd shape of the face and the large hands

Sergei Cyrillov - Stepan Razin Stepan Razin was a leader of Cossaks rebellion of 1670-1671. Quite soon he became a symbol of the struggle of low-classes against the authoritarian government (however, at the beginning Razin was just a kind of a brigand). Razin is a popular figure in Russian folklore. There’re a lot of songs, poems etc about his adventures. Yes, and melody from one of these songs was used by The Seekers in their famous “The Carnival is Over”
