Day 5

Dec 02, 2009 12:57

Well, we got to Berlin safely and took an afternoon tour. Since mom was not feeling terribly well, we decided on a bus tour of the city. Amusingly, it is as if we chartered the entire bus as we were the only four customers for the afternoon tour. While certainly not a detailed tour, we did get to see all the highlights. East Side Gallery, Brandenburg Gate, Tiergarten, Spree River, Wilhemsplatz, the Ku'Damm, Checkpoint Charlie, and many many more. It was actually kind of nice to take this kind of tour because we didn't have to worry about parking or navigating around the city. They did everything for us. Between me and everyone else, we got some really good photos. The hotel, The Hotel Ansbach, is certainly not high-end. Due to a misunderstanding, my mom, dad, and I were given two rooms with 8 beds total. Needless to say, we had plenty of extra pillows.

Today, we drove back to Spangdahlem, so we took the northern route through Magdeburg, Hanover, Dortmund, and Koln. It was a fast-paced trip, but we got to see some really great vistas of the German countryside.

Tomorrow, we head over to Ramstein Flugplatz and hopefully, we'll get to see Reichenbach where we lived back in the '70s. I'm going to try to find a wine shop that may have some Eiswein, but we'll see.
