re: body art wall

from first year kid who threw the "pimps and hoes" wall last night:
There seems to be some confusion in the e-mail.

The Pimp & Ho/Burlesque/Forum war/Prostitutes and the Men who own theme/Viral Marketing [?!] wall will be on Saturday, the 15th, not Friday.

And if anyone knows about tonight’s wall, that would be cool, too.

IMPORTANT PART. I WILL SAY THIS HERE, DRIECTLY FROM THE MEETING *******

I had a meeting with Dean Wendy Bashant earlier this week on concerns of the wall.

The police report for body art was two pages long, including 25 trespassing, $1000 of damages, and various reports of sex in public places.

She stressed that normally one thing might happen on a typical night, not two pages.

SO, if you plan on attending the wall on Saturday, or will be on campus, please

Keep your doors locked.

Keep your bikes locked.

Keep your cars locked.

As request on Dr. Bashant, if you see anyone suspicious, especially in large groups, to don't hesitate to inquire or notify a police officer. I will be doing this, along with my friends who are throwing this wall with me. I would appreciate the help of keeping this party safe. Dr. Bashant said that if the magnitude is nearly as bad as Body art, then there will be no more walls. She said it's happened before, and that too many people are riding her back on the safety of the student body.

IF YOU HAVE A GUEST FROM TOWN- They better be with you during the night. Normally I wouldn't have a problem with this, but seeing as I inadvertently handed the responsibility of the fate of the rest of the year due to gross security violations, my friends and I will be on people's asses if we do not recognize them and they are not escorted. The cops will be as well. This is not about me personally being a bitch to people. This is about me wanting the entire campus to continue to have walls. Once again, if you see people you don't recognize, especially a group, STOMP. THEM. OUT. I cannot stress this enough.

Since people had time to pass the forum war by word of mouth, I know people have enough time to pass the important safety measures by word of mouth too. It's kind of like AA, but not nearly as rewarding.

Again. This wall will be on Saturday.

Winn.

our response
Dear New College Student Body,

It has come to our attention that Winn and Dr. "Wendy" Bashant have taken issue with the way in which this year's body art wall was conducted. While I regret to inform you that the majority of the campus enjoyed themselves and personally delivered their praise to the various hosts of the event (who seem to recall you as having been one of the party's enthusiastic attendees) , I want to quickly address two important issues that you raise in your email to the forum as regards body art wall.

First of all, we were and have always been concerned about the safety of the student body, especially at a wall that can be potentially "risque." The number of reported police events for that evening reflect our extreme concern for our party goers' safety. We prefer to report any suspicious activity to the cops rather than have it get out of hand. Good luck throwing a sex- themed wall without generating a list at least as long as the one you suggest we did. While none of our students want to overburden the cops, I think that 2 pages of trespass notifications are better than someone getting raped and beaten. We hope that you two agree.

Second, none of the official or unofficial hosts of the the body art wall have been informed of the alleged $1000 worth of damage. Though I know that you, Winn, haven't been here long enough to check out of a room with housing, I assure you that they will charge you for any and every possible fiscal offense against the school. If there were significant damages, we would have been notified.

Finally, I think the student body feels that we currently have larger problems to address as a campus than, and I quote, "public sex acts."

I would like to thank the many New College students and "town guests" who have picked up trash, scrubbed paint off the walls, looked out for the safety of the campus, and pressure washed Palm Court for four days running so that the whole school might enjoy some good, painty fun.
We too love walls- and we hope that Winn and Dr. Bashant will communicate with the New College community directly about whether their permanence as a New College institution is in question.

Thanks and peace,
Katie "maybe i shouldn't have reported them" Xavier-Keene and Renee "at least we didn't have a forum war" Price

Not that I need them, but out of curiosity: does anyone know where the chess pieces from the board in the Crease have disappeared to?

I'm pretty sure I saw a couple pawns by the construction site while searching for a cat last night.
