You can always fill out an application where I work. We hire regularly due to attrition. You would need to be able to type fairly quickly (no hunt and peck typers unless you're looking for a way low entry level position in the mail room), have a high school diploma or GED, and be able to pass a drug test. Not to mention being a good employee and not abusing the system! I don't know what type of salary you came from, but we're fairly competitive in wages. You would be starting out at a BORING desk job I'd imagine, but you get paid vacation days, paid sick days, 40 hours a week (most can start anytime between 6-8 am and then get off anywhere from 2:30-4:30), health/dental/401k options...
The hardest part is coming in every day to work a boring desk job. And some of the people are a pain in the ass too...but I don't have any problems with people here. It's all in how you handle yourself. Just holler if you want more info.
Something to keep in mind. I work where "ilovemedicare" used to work...and he totally hated it here. You may want to get his point of view first. I think he might know your sister. :-)
do you work at that health insurance place by circuit city? i was thinking of applying there. i can type roughly 64 words a minute. once i get back in the groove of constantly typing it'll go back up. i'm soooo looking for a desk job. i've had my knee surgery done and i'm getting my back under control. i have damaged nerves or something. but yeah..totally.
I work for WPS (Wisconsin Physicians Services). Right by us is also Blue Cross Blue Shield, so I don't know which one you're referring to when you say "by Circut City". We're both within viewing distance of CC, but BCBS is closer. :-)
I'm pretty close with Human Resources...let me see what I can find out on how soon they'll be hiring. BUT, there's no harm in stopping in to fill out an application sooner than later. Some people fill out an app and include a resume with it, but i don't believe it's mandatory. (Not sure though--best to be prepared and bring one.) Just a month ago HR was so hurting for people to apply that when they'd come in to fill out an App, HR would bring them back immediately for a typing test (which just so happens to be right next to my desk. :-))
Directions: Turn on Penetecost Drive (can only turn left). Drive straight past Karpet Korner. We're the building 1/4 mile on the right, blue awning that says WPS on it. (We also have flags next to the road...but you should turn in the lot before you pass those). Park by the doors in front, ring the buzzer and the guard will let you in. The receptionist is there and you can ask her for an application. You can even fill it out here and leave it with her. Drop me a line after you've done this and I'll ask Daina (HR lady) if she's gotten the application for you. Then she'll ask me if we're "acquaintances", and for benefit of the doubt I'll say that yes, I know you. (What's your name, anyway?!?!? X-p)
My name is Kimber Lentz...can I put you on for a reference? (so I guess I would need your full name and # if you don't care.) That's all I have left for my application. WPS was the place I was talking about. My hubby works at the Circuit City warehouse so I had him pick up an application on his way home from work...
Good Christ! That's my husbands cousin. Do me a favor and just don't mention you know me, heard of me, or anything related to me, K? I like to try and keep a LOW profile...and I do mean low. ;-)
I don't talk to him that often. I haven't seen him in months. But that's a huge coincidence. He used to hang out with my dad. Your hubby might know him...Jim Maleski...
