Their first day camping wasn't Ariadne's usual idea of a good time. Trying to find a good spot, then trying to pitch the tent, attempting to start a fire. Then there was her face getting sunburned, and the bugs ( Read more... )

They were sitting on the tarp in front of the entrance to their tent, just watching the fire. He was leaning into her, trying to keep warm. Fortunately, Arthur hadn’t succumbed to the various ailments Ariadne had contracted in the day. “Want me to spray you with more bug spray?” He asked after a moment.

"I'm okay. They're still leaving me alone, for now," she murmured. "Now that the sun is down, they shouldn't be so much of a bother, but tomorrow I'm going into town to buy some of those torches to keep them away." She turned her head slightly to nuzzle his neck.

“Okay.” He turned his head too and kissed the top of hers. “Should we break out the marshmallows and make some smores?”

She grinned a little. "That sounds like a great idea. Stay here, I'll be right back." She kissed him again, on the cheek this time, and crawled into the tent to grab the marshmallows, chocolate bars and graham crackers they'd brought.

She also took a moment to double-check her bag - and make sure she hadn't forgot to bring the pricey bottle of lube she'd bought, as a surprise.

"Here we go!" she said cheerfully as she returned to Arthur's side. "You do the marshmallows, I'll deal with the chocolate bars?"

“Okay,” he said happily as he took the marshmallows and opened the bag. They had bought some wood skewers as well and Arthur started pushing the marshmallows on two sticks before holding them over the fire.

Ariadne busied herself with breaking up the chocolate bars into squares, as well as the graham crackers. "You're really enjoying yourself, aren't you?" she asked after a few moments of companionable silence. This was the happiest she'd seen him since before his accident.

“Of course I am. I mean look at where we are and what we’re doing. Don’t get me wrong, I love the city, but this is incredible, too,” he replied and took the marshmallows off the fire when they were golden brown.

She carefully constructed a smore, and sandwiched one marshmallow between the two halves, offering it to him. "Maybe you should think about buying some property in the country," she suggested.

“You think so?” He asked as he took the smore from her and took a bite.

"Well, sure, if you like it so much, no reason not to live in the peace and quiet," she said with a shrug, building her own s'more.

“Okay, I’ll look into it,” he told her before finishing up his smore. “I should get a job, too.”

That took her a little by surprise. "What sort of job?"

He shrugged. “Any. I don’t want to wait until my entire bank account has been depleted.”

Ariadne frowned a little. "You have plenty of money. I mean, I'm not exactly privy to your account information, but I know you had at least three offshore accounts..."

“Oh.” He hadn’t known about the offshore accounts.

"Not that you shouldn't get a job, if you want to," she pointed out hastily. "That's entirely up to you. But you shouldn't feel like you have to or you'll go broke. I don't think you're in any danger of going broke any time in the next forty years or so."
