[Character Music] One down, two to go...

"You know that no matter where you go in London, you're never more than thirty feet from a rat?"
-David Thewlis, Naked

After accepting the challenge from jaydedone, I somehow managed to stay up all night doing this. I guess I wanted to see if I could actually do it.

04. Tricky - Black Steel
05. The Cramps - Human Fly
06. Bauhaus - Bela Lugosi's Dead
07. Machines of Loving Grace - Golgotha Tenament Blues
08. Wolfsheim - Heroin, She Said
09. Morrissey - Jack the Ripper
10. Duran Duran - Wild Boys
11. Clash - London Calling

13. Oasis - Live Forever
14. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
15. Velvet Underground - Murder Mystery
16. Ocean 11 - Hong Kong Low Rider

01. An instrumental, this is a track from Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai (probably the best Jarmusch movie to date) and it sets the mood wonderfully. You'd want this song playing behind you as you walked down the street.

02. This song just works for me. I found it while fishing for Massive Attack tunes and have dug it ever since. It just seems to fit. Also illustrates the character's me-against-the-world feeling.

Right here is where the end gon' start at,
Conflict, contact 'n' combat,
Fighters stand where the land is marked at,
Settle the dispute about who the livest,
3 word answer,
Whoever survive this,
Only one of us can ride forever,
So you and I can't ride together,
Can't live or can't die together,
All we can do is collide together,
So I skillfully apply the pressure,
Won't stop until I'm forever... One!

03. A little more superior "I'm gonna fuck you up" attitude, though this character isn't a figher. He's arrogant, though, because he knows that his crew are as good at their jobs as he is at his.

I see you don't know, who you dealin' with
I don't have it all, I'm a lunatic
Cause see society? They label me a threat
But I'm just gettin' started, I'm not finished yet.
Look me in my eyes, I can see your thoughts
All your ups and downs, all your little faults
Keep actin' tough, it's gonna get creepy
All of a sudden you're startin' to feel sleepy.
But in these streets, when you doze off,
You wake up with your clothes off
Ashamed, feelin' so lost, whoa.
You see my crew, you know my style
Victory is mine, you're goin' down.

04. Went with the Tricky cover of this song because it's a good combination of ingredients that represents the character; the fast pace, the defiance of the lyrics, the English accent. :) My only complaint about this version of the song is that it only repeats the first verse and none of the rest of the lyrics.

05. One of our favorites from the clubs, I don't even know how old this song is. Some of the lyrics are incomprehensible, but it's got a great beat and it fits part of the outfit I've taken to wearing for the character.

06. Another song that's a product of the character's time of Embrace. It's also a joke because he's a member of the Ordo Dracul.

07. Was going to avoid the Crow soundtrack altogether, but this song fits. Not as pop as some of the other tracks on the album and not as pretentious as others. If you're not careful, you'll start swaying to this one. Lyrics are all cool and nasty an' shit, too.

08. This is a song the character relates to, since he was a drug user up until the moment of his Embrace.

"heroin" she said, "was the best i had...
no more mountains left to climb.
the world so slow... all my dreams just too high
to be fulfilled in time...!"

09. One of Morrissey's better tracks, I thought it fit well.

10. One of my single favorite Duran Duran songs from Arena, their live album and probably their best. Anyway, the song echoes the character's younger days, back when he used to run with a gang. In his opinion, his old crew could teach his current broodmates about how to handle themselves.

Wild boys fallen far from glory
Reckless and so hungered

11. In addition to being a Brit, he's an ex-punk Embraced in the 1980's. 'Nuff said.

12. 90's Britpop. I've always been a fan of this song for no reason I can really discern.

13. First Oasis song I ever heard. Still one of their better ones. Covers vampirism and the
character's feelings about unlife, other Kindred, and covenant relations.

Maybe I just want to fly
I want to live I don't want to die
Maybe I just want to breathe
Maybe I just don't believe
Maybe you're the same as me
We see things they'll never see
You and I are gonna live forever

14. An old favorite from the character's breathing days...with a few ideas about how he might feel about his broodmates.

15. I love this song. It's just all fucked up. One of the lesser-known songs from a not very well-known band.

16. This is an instrumental on a CD that was given to me by a family friend several years ago. It's cool, it's smooth, and it's ska. Great piece and a great way to close out the mix, I think.
