Electricity and Kokomo and Random Musings: Mikey & Chicken Edition
Gah. I couldn't decide which song to put in the music field of the LJ update page, Electricity (from the Billy Elliot musical) or Kokomo by The Beach Boys. Both have been pretty relevant in the past two days.
*sigh* Well, so much for a long weekend off. Yesterday (Thursday) I was able to finish up at early work and go home around noon. I thought I would do all of my household tasks since I have today (Friday) off and the weekend. Then the rest of the days off would be task-free and I would be able to enjoy what I have planned.
I was about to start washing a huge pile of laundry when the power went out. Everything came to a screeching halt. Without electricity, I wasn't able to vacuum, iron, or see well enough to clean the work area in the garage. I managed to dust and clean the bathrooms, but I was totally hampered by the lack of light. Even though there was plenty of natural light, it was hard to clean the corners and other places. That Electricity song was stuck in my head the entire four freaking hours the power was off. I like that song, but it was just too much.
As for Kokomo, I had that song stuck in my head for most of Wednesday. I had an appointment to see my travel agent to pick up my travel documents. I was so surprised when she emailed because that trip isn't until October, but I was excited to retrieve my docs nonetheless. Squee! Aruba, Jamaica...ooooh I wanna take ya, Bermuda, Bahama, c'mon pretty mama. We're going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica and staying at one of the resorts there.
After my appointment, I went to Target where they are having their back-to-school sales. OMG SQUEE, office supplies. I ♥ office supplies! I think I spent about 40 minutes in that section alone, looking at all the pens, papers, paints, etc. and envisioning what I could create with them. I ended purchasing a bunch of flash drives, which are handy to keep in stock considering how many pictures I take (I can be quite snap-happy at times) and archival-safe glue sticks for the scrapbooks. I was pretty good with saying no to stuff I wanted but didn't need.
Random Musings
• This conversation took place yesterday.
Mom: I heard you and your dad went to Magic Mike's for lunch.
Me: o_O What?!
Mom: Magic Mike's pizza.
Me: O_o Uh, no. That would be Mountain Mike's. Can you picture Dad at a male stripper joint, calmly eating pizza?
Mom: *facepalm* Too much Magic Mike on the brain.
Me: *giggle snorts*
Yeah, my mom dragged me and my dad to the theater to see that movie with her.
• "You have to talk to your chicken." Some guy said this to me when I stopped at the salad bar to pick up some condiments in a restaurant. I had just retrieved my order and the guy was staring way too intently at my rotisserie chicken.
