Random Musings: Mat, Books, and Heroes Edition
• Tomorrow is mat_kat's birthday, and today we surprised her with a quick trip to the coast for a few hours of celebration. We went to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, which was a stomping ground of mine when I was a college student. It was also the destination of my first road trip as a newborn. We rode a few of the rides before having a late lunch at a seafood restaurant on the pier. Dessert consisted of freshly made, gooey caramel apples that we picked up at a shop and Marissa's miniature chocolate cupcakes with toffee bits which we consumed in short order while lazing out on the beach. It was fairly crowded since it was a warm and sunny day, but we all had fun, especially the birthday girl.
• My friends have talked me into reading Stephenie Myers' Twilight saga. I will start on it as soon as I finish my current book. Vampires have never held much interest for me, so the hype of the final book being released only pushed its way into my thoughts when I began seeing/reading news blurbs. There's also the trailer for Twilight which will be in theaters in December. It looks kind of interesting to me. I'm not completely sold on the series yet, but I'm willing to read it. I picked up the books I didn't have yesterday at Borders.
• Speaking of books, Cinda Chima's The Dragon Heir will be available this Tuesday. Like I said in an earlier entry, I'm not a fan of Madison Moss, but I do like the series. I hope not too much attention is focused on her.
• Squee! The second season of Heroes will be released on August 26. I missed a few episodes, so it will be great to catch up before the new season begins next month.
