thud thud thud thud

That is the sound of my head hitting a wall.  The last 24 hours have sucked.  And that is putting it mildly.  This is a long one, read at your own risk.

Going back to last week and the computer problems.  On Thursday (5/6), I attempted to reinstall XP on my C drive.  It did install and I added all necessary service packs.  Then I went to look at my F drive.  It is a separate physical drive that I keep all of my data on.  Out of 150 GB of data, 107 GB was missing.  I couldn't find it at all.  It contained all of my important documents as well as every picture I have ever taken of my kids.  My friend Richard peeled me off the ceiling on Saturday and found all of the data.  I haven't turned on the desktop since Sunday, mostly because I have arrived at the conclusion that I need to reformat the C drive completely and that means not having the kids around to interrupt me.  So I have been using my daughter's laptop.  She is less than thrilled about this situation and is quite vocal about it.  My aunt and uncle are coming to town this weekend so maybe I can get some uninterrupted computer time to start the necessary repairs.  And I really want my big screen and ergonomic keyboard back.  I hate typing on a laptop.  Far too small.

Now for the this week.  Last Friday, Sam began to complain that his lower left back hurt.  I thought he might have strained it so I would rub it and give him some ibuprofen.  It helped but he did keep bringing it up, sometimes with tears in his little eyes.  I asked Pete about it on Mother's Day and he told me that if it persisted that he would need to see him in his office.  Well, it persisted.  I made the appointment on Wednesday to be in his office bright and early on Thursday morning at 8:30 am.  Wednesday wound down with laundry done but on my bed, the lawn mowed, and me being really tired.  At 11 pm, I stacked all the laundry to hang it up on Thursday and I prepared for bed.  Just as I was going to shut off the light, I heard a nasty barking cough.  I discovered Sam with croup in his bed.  He couldn't breathe well and kept coughing.  It was 11:30 pm.  I spent the next 2.5 hours holding Sam upright, filling the bathroom with steam, preparing a cool-mist vaporizer, propping the head of his bed up with phone books, and trying  to comfort him.  He tried to sleep in my bed but sometime around 2 am, he decided that he wanted to be in his bed.  As I put him down, Droopy came to me and meowed a lot.  He was upset about something but I was too wiped to figure out what.  So I finally went to bed.

I am suppose to get up at 5:45 am.  Natalie woke me up at 6:22 am.  The volume on my alarm had been turned down and I didn't hear it go off.  She had a stuffy nose and couldn't breathe.  She blew her nose and neon green greeted me.  Joy, she has a sinus infection.  I quickly get ready and then get Virginia up.  When both girls are dressed and ready I head to Sam.  I somehow manage to get all the kids ready and a lunch made for Virginia in plenty of time to get her to school.  I guess that shows how much extra time I have built into my morning routine.  I feed the twins and the pets.  Then I discover why Droopy was being so bitchy overnight.  His right anal gland is all swollen up.  He needs to go to the vet.  But that has to wait.  After the twins eat we head to Dr. Pete's.  He says that Natalie doesn't have a sinus infection but just extreme allergies.  Yay.  Sam does have croup but he should be fine with some steroid samples that he has in the office.  Yay again.  He examines his back and says that we need to do an ultrasound to make sure that no internal organs are involved.  Then if that is clear, we get an xray.  He has the ultrasound set up and I find out that Sam can't eat for 5 or more hours before the exam.  He ate at 8 am.  He has to skip lunch.  The appointment is set up for 1:30 pm.  I don't know if I will get out in time to pick up Virginia from school (it is over at 2:45 pm).  I ask my MIL and, luckily, she is available to watch Natalie and pick up Virginia.  Triple Yay!.  I packed Sam a lunch in his Wall-E lunch box.  He is unhappy about not eating lunch but I don't think he really understood how long it would take.  He was a trooper thru the whole ultrasound but he wasn't able to eat until nearly 3 pm.  He wolfed down his PB&J.  We get back and Patty heads for home.  I make a call to the vet.  They can fit me in at 5 pm.  Before we head to the vet, Pete's nurse called.  She said the ultrasounds look nice and normal so no internal issues.  Yay again.  Now he needs to have an Xray.  Boo.  So on Friday, I have to go back to the same place I was today (this time with Natalie in tow) and have poor Sam sit thru an Xray.

So we head to the vet.  I knew that we would probably have to wait so I have the kids bring things to do, books to read, toys to play with.  They weren't enough.  We got there at 5:55 pm.  We didn't leave until 6:22 pm.  The vet didn't even come into the exam room until 6:05 pm.  By then, we had been in there for at least 45 minutes.  The kids were going nuts.  Droopy was the only quiet one since he was pouting in his crate.  He will probably be at the vet hospital until Monday.  The vet felt bad about how long we had to wait so he said he would comp all but one night of his stay.  That will help.  And odds are that once he leaves, he will no longer have anal glands since he had the left one removed in February 2009.

I don't even want to think about how much money was spent today.  Chris had a good interview today so if we hear more good things about it, I will pass it along then.  For now, I don't want to jinx it so I am not going to say what company.  He sounded excited afterward so cross your fingers, say prayers, send good vibes.  And now I shall finish my second glass of really cheep wine, clear the clothes off my bed again (only Virginia's got hung up), and go to bed.

ps:  the ants won't die in the kitchen or my bathroom.  i hate them a lot.
