Depp Likely to Play Willy Wonka
When we first heard about it, the idea of a remake of beloved, twisted kids' flick Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory gave us serious pause. But then Tim Burton signed on to direct, with the blessing of author Roald Dahl's estate, and we started to get interested. Now the latest news has us positively giddy with excitement.
Variety reports that quirky actor Johnny Depp - who worked with Burton on Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, and Sleepy Hollow - is in serious talks for the starring role of Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Though his name didn't really surface in the trades until late July, he met with Burton recently and was thereafter offered the role."
