Dream #291
I was shopping at IGA, checking out with a ton of groceries - $217 worth at that. Then I went to the middle school. I was sitting in on a band meeting in the band room. I'm pretty sure I was just visiting, and not a middle school student. Maybe I had early release or something. But anyway, Mr. Bayer was talking about the band field trip to Holland. He was stating this list of things that 'bad' students had done in the past on band trips. WHen he asked if there were any questions, I raised my hand and he called on me. I had been looking at the faces of the students as he was talking - it went from excitement to dread.
I said something to him infront of the class along the lines of 'you're focusing on a few instances of malbehavior and totally overlooking the good in the dozens of these kids. It's making them dread this band trip and resent being in the band. If you want good students to love band, take the isolated incidents as they come and don't punish these kids for something they haven't done.'
I think he was embarassed, but it felt good to stand up to an 'adult' in support of impressionable kids.
