Secondly I agree w/ your mentioning of subtitles. I can't understand a lot of British dialects, and don't stand a chance against many Caribbean ones. The sprache is totally different, and I don't understand why it should be labeled as racist to want subtitles on something you can't understand if you are using it to learn. :(

I've got nothing against you beautiful yanks, but it does piss me off when people assume I'm American, it doesn't happen too often, but I'd much rather someone just asked than assumed.
I don't think race is as huge an issue in the UK as in the US, we have our problems, but since most people come from the commonwealth anyway, they're usually accepted as British quite quickly.
I know I've pigeonholed, but my head hurts...

but i hate when the first one u meant happens. it always happens mainly in english classes and its like ok... why dont we ask some one who knows about it.. the minority in the class cant answer all the questions..everyone has had different experiences.
