My little student
Lol, the girl I am tutoring is so hilarious. I'm totally in love with her. Here are a few quotes to give you an idea of what it's like tutoring a 10-year-old Chinese girl.
"So, Lucy. What do you want to be when you are old?"
"I want to be a policewoman!"
"Wow, not many girls want to be policewomen when they grow up. Why do you want to be a policewoman?"
'Because they are beeeeeuuuuutiiiiful!"
"Guess what, Lucy? I went shopping yesterday!"
"What did you buy?"
"I bought jeans and 3 sweaters. I look really good now!"
"Oh yes! You must look FINE!" (lol, she thought that good and fine were interchangeable, because you say, "I'm fine, how are you today?" I decided not to correct her on this point . . . it was too funny.)
"Larissa, do you like pandas, dogs, cats, tigers, elephants, rabbits . .. (etc.) the most?"
5 minutes later . . .
"Larissa, what is your favorite animal?"
10 minutes later . . .
"Larissa, do you like pandas or tigers more?"
I forget what I said exactly, but it was something that sounded to her like the word fat.
"Oh yes! My friends say you are very fat!"
Oh, China! When will you learn that honesty is not always the best policy?
I bought new shoes yesterday. I know I sound like a total ditz for writing this in my LJ, but they are awesome. They're black heels with a cute and yet also sexy bow on the front side. They're made out of a lacy-type material, so they're kind of like tights except shoes with heels. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome! And only 20 Euros! Now I just need to figure out where I am going to wear them, lol.
I have come to the realization that I actually do not like any of my classes. This is not good, and doesn't say very much about the German higher education system, which isn't as great as I was expecting it to be. I suppose I like my English-German translation course . . . but the fact that I always feel like a retard kind of numbs the pleasure a bit. Maybe I'll actually be able to find interesting classes next semester, because I'm stuck with these.
