Good times.

My ongoing disgruntlement with most of my peers in this stupid graduate program has pretty much reached a head. One of them sent out an email last night inviting us all out for drinks BEFORE one of our classes, in which about half a dozen of us are presenting our cumulative work for the semester. Now, personally, I couldn't care less if these folks were drunk while I was presenting; they're not going to be listening anyhow, and they might enjoy my pretty pictures more if they're hammered. Professionally, I think this is akin to showing up to your kid's parent teacher conference with a tray of Jello shots ("kids LOVE Jello!"). One moron who I particularly resent will most likely get at least noticeably drunk, and has to present, so I'm sort of looking forward to her making some sort of ass of herself. I'm a bit conflicted. We're adults (supposedly), so we can make the decision for ourselves to be idiots when we want to. Most people probably won't go, due to either money or travel distance, so it's not like everyone is going to get there with lampshades on their heads. On the one hand, this is pretty flagrant disrespect to our professor, and definitely towards everyone presenting that day. On the other hand, it is almost the end of this godforsaken program, and I have to accept the fact that there are some people who have had it worse than even I have, and drinking may be the only way they can stomach yet another class. I'm torn...do I sent back a really polite, appealing "reply to all" asking that everyone please just watch their quantities so they can both drive safely and be attentive, or do I sit back and watch the inevitable shenanigans? I do love me some shenanigans...
