Alphonse Elric by Noako
My First Entry...So exciting...jump...whoot \o/
Hah aaanyway I decided I would "blog" about the new version of Fullmetal Alchemist : Brotherhood. The English Dub was just released on Adult Swim for the first time tonight/this morning at 12:00 am. eastern time.
Several Obvious Returning voice actors can be noted from the first episode.
Edward Elric - Vic Mignogna
Roy Mustang - Travis Willingham
King Bradley - Ed Braylock
To Name a few.
As the majority of the fan base knows, Aaron Dismuke, The original voice actor for Alphonse Elric, cannot return to his previous position of voicing the soft spoke Elric. There is such a thing called PUBERTY in which Dismuke is experiencing, so he is no longer able to make that innocent child like voice of Al's.
As it is necessary Funimation hired a new voice actress to voice Alphonse, This new voice actress is Maxey Whitehead.
While I have no doubt Whitehead is most likely very successful at what she does...Her attempt at voicing Alphonse in the first episode of the English Dub...was less than satisfying. Alphonse literally sounded like a girl. -A tiny girl, Nina's age.- While Whitehead is on the right track, it seems as though she is trying too hard to make her voice sound like Dismuke's, and she is lacking that slight rough undertone a male can bring to the table.
This is not impossible for a woman to achieve, as we see with Paku Romi the Brilliant Japanese Voice actress of Edward Elric.
It wasn't the worst performance I've seen, but in my opinion Whitehead has quite a long way to go. I just couldn't accept her voice inside that suit of armor we all know so well. Hopefully her performance will improve and we wont have to make the younger Elric a little sister.
Much Love and Regards~
