"Mama, I'm coming home... "

Arizona Folks: I can now with full confidence recommend an absolutely spectacular animal hospital for both routine and emergency cases. Tell all of your friends. This place is better equipped than some human hospitals -- click on link for a tour. They not only treat cats and dogs, but also birds, rodents, reptiles, ferrets and rabbits.

I just got off the phone with the ASPCA vet Dr. D. again and Dr. C. at the animal hospital.

Since Foxy's kidney levels have all been normal and we're at 48 hours post-exposure, Dr. D does not expect any further problems or long-term consequences. Although there is one case on record that did not show signs until 72 hours after ingestion, usually complications arise within 24 hours. Because Fox has been on 48 hours of fluid therapy and had the activated charcoal treatments, we can expect that any toxins there were in her system have been neutralized. Thus, both Drs. D. and C. are comfortable sending her home. (Both women also teased me, saying they are comfortable in assuming that no lilies will ever enter my house again.)

I asked about the possibility of any long-term but minimal damage to the kidneys. Dr. D. explained that
when there is major damage, the kidney enzyme #'s (for BUN - Blood Urea Nitrogen and Creatinine, probably also Calcium and Total Proteins get checked too) rise quickly. However, they only rise when there is damage to at least 3/4 of kidney function. Anything smaller does not show up on radar.

This means it is possible that Fox could have minimal kidney damage; however, the good news is that, if so, her kidneys will recover and heal themselves. As long as she keeps producing urine, the kidneys will regenerate, making the likelihood of permanent damage fairly low. So I'll need to keep a close eye on her for the next few days, but she's out of the danger zone.

I am so very relieved that I cannot stop crying. The last two nights have been horribly tense, but now my baby is coming home. Tonight I''ll sleep well with my little one curled up next to me.

Thank you for all your outpouring of support. The aggressive blend of magick and medicine has create a miracle.
