International Year of the Potato?

Was anyone else aware that it is the International Year of the Potato? When did this happen? Who even decides this kind of thing? But according to the promotional leaflet that came free with my coffee, that's exactly what it is. To quote from it directly:

Halfway through the International Year of the Potato the Lincolnshire Show is the ideal venue to demonstrate the Counties involvement in growing potatoes in the UK. Learn about the year in the life of a Potato in the Natwest Bank Discovery Zone as well as see the display of potato machinery.

I wanted to go, but Ilya says no.

In other news, I'm feeling quite mind-crushingly nostalgic about Russia recently, possibly precipitated by meeting up with Hannah and Heather this weekend (which was fun) and hence I have been listening to a lot of Russian music, which on reflection was probably a bad move as it has only made me feel even more sentimental... Sigh. I miss the sound of Russian being spoken fluently, без акцента.

Also, I think I'm in half-lust with Ben 'Yahtzee' Crowshaw (possibly living proof that funny can equal sexy - it's not just something women say cos they don't want to sound shallow. Not that there wasn't plenty of proof out there already). For anyone who doesn't know who he is, he does regular game reviews for the Escapist magazine (it's a testament to how amusing they are that I watch them at all considering I have no interest whatsoever in any computer games that came out post 1990's) and you can find his website here. Go there and laugh! Or don't, if his humour isn't your kind of thing.

I also think I'm in lust with coffee. Seriously, if coffee could take human form, I would want to marry it and have its children. It's like the liquid equivalent of curry.
