Wow, am I going to be glad when this is all over.
Not that I don't love playing the music. I even feel pretty confident about it (I just had my dress rehearsal and it was great). But I'm just so tired. I got an e-mail from the orchestra director yesterday saying we need to have some (read: a lot of) sectionals if we're ever going to be any good as a section (I'm paraphrasing, it was a little less mean). The wind ensemble conductor expressed similar disappointment of our section at rehearsal today. And all I can think is "Give me a frickin' break! I have 13 HOURS OF ENSEMBLE A WEEK! And my recital is in 4 days!"
To top it all off, I'm literally sitting outside the recital hall tonight to wait for my dress rehearsal time, and I discovered the most giant of cracks there has ever been in an oboe, in my oboe. My brand new oboe, which has never seen the likes of an Ithaca winter before. So it's understandable that this might happen, but does it have to happen 4 days before the biggest performance of my life so far?? Miraculously it doesn't seem to have gone all the way through, because it still plays great (knock wood [heh, wood...]), but I may have to actually express ship my oboe to Indiana tomorrow and pray to the oboe gods that it comes back in working order before Saturday.
At least I have the most awesome quintet there's ever been. They're all amazing; I'm so lucky to be in such a tight group. Here's to hoping the oboe woes will subside before saturday.
