Damn I think that that is fucked , that people aren't credited by Dre. Why would one artist fuck another one over like that ? That's just evil. It's one thing when a business person does it, but when a fellow artist does it ?
yeah it's fucked up. like that one song.. i forget what it's called... by eminem... it goes " you don't wanna fuck with shady, cuz shady is gonna fuckin' kill you" (i think it's called kill you? haha)... the background music that dre did was taken from a non-mainstream jazz artist from several decades ago. Then there was another artist, I can't remember who - who didn't even know who Eminem was but his daughter came home with the CD and was like "Dad, he took your song" and played it for him. It's unmistakable. It's not that it sounds similar , it is THE SAME.
Yeah "it's stupid" (soon to be trademarked by me).
And as much as they play that video on VH1, apparantly people do wanna see Gwen complaining about "if" she was a rich girl, what she'd do. I mean hell, the reggae version at least talks about how they could actually afford a cab ride and own a house.
I'd be very interested to see exactly how the royalties from Gwen's "Rich Girl" are divided amongst all of the artists credited.
Anyway, there's a lot of what are called "One Rhythm" albums in dancehall reggae - the same backing music, but different vocalists doing their own lyrics and melody lines. Sometimes the composer of the music gets co-credit, sometimes they don't. That's the Jamaican music business for you!
But this had different background music and only the "If I was a rich girl/man. lalalalalalalalalallalalala... if I was a wealthy girl/man" melody is the same in the Lady Saw song compared to the original.
But the Gwen song has most of the lyrics Lady Saw did plus the same background music as Ms. Saw.
If IIII was a rich girl, and I covered a song by someone, I'd make sure they'd get proper credit and payment especially if they weren't as rich as me. Apparantly Gwen is more concerned about buying hot new clothes and her Harajuku girls, who supposedly one of them couldn't take her anymore and smacked her haha.
"What happened to my life? Turned up side down. Chicks dat blew ya mind, ding, it's the second round. Original track and ting. You know you can't buy these things."
