So...today the callback list for "Our Town" went up, and I found out that I, along with 3 other people, have been called back for "Stage Manager," who's the omniscient narrator of the story. So, I was pretty excited...
...Until, of course, my parents decided to go ahead and ruin it. They sounded lukewarmly interested when I told them, but at dinner today, my dad decided to "jokingly" bring up the fact that every time I act, I sound angry, no matter what the passage is. And them my mom pointed something out that I had subconsciously caught on but didn't realize: The narrator is probably like the least emotional dude/dudette of the story. Ugh. So, in the time span of 10 minutes, my day was ruined, my happiness greatly deflated. I told them it wasn't the time to bring it up, BUT WOULD THEY LISTEN? 'Couse not. "This is for your own good." "We are trying to help you." I told them how hard it was for me to listen to critism...because previous to my little "yay theatre!"-ness I really hated getting critism and I'd like get angry and yell at the person and then later chill and take their advice. I worked hard to correct that. Plus, my mom videotaped me doing my blurbs and as much as I hated watching myself on tape, I did anyways. But my parents couldn't see that.
So I cried pretty much all through dinner, and then through playing piano. They still haven't apologized. Fuckers.
I'll show them.
EDIT: Wow, how pathetically whiney I sound. Sorry you guys :|
