Just standing and staring. Well that wasn’t the whole truth. Actually he had stopped to look at the morning sun and the way it painted the scenery before him, and to think about Reita. Ruki knew that if he was put in the same situation as Reita was, then he would definitely be as lost as Reita was. He was no better; he only had the upper hand in the weird relationship between them.
Ironic how I just called Reita a hypocrite and I’m the one fooling around with a taken man, Ruki winced inwardly. Somehow he had hoped to find a loophole that would prove his innocence and confirm Reita to be the bad guy.
Funny how I love him more even though he’s the biggest idi- no asshole, out there. How long will it take for Naoko to notice what he’s been up to? The stuff I’ve been hearing about their relationship is just too fluffy to be true.
“What is my lovely Ruki thinking about?” He heard before one strong arm snaked around his waist and an equally strong built chest pressed against his back.
“Relationships and stuff”
“Still dwelling on the guy who doesn’t know if he’s gay for you or not?” Hayate smirked as he kissed Ruki’s neck sending small shivers throughout his body. “I trust you know that you’re free to go whenever you want. I know that our little fling isn’t going to last forever even though I would like it to” he mumbled as he continued kissing Ruki’s shoulder.
“I know” Ruki said with a sigh, as he was relieved by the fact that Hayate didn’t have his hopes up for something more between them. Something that Ruki couldn’t give him even though he might have wanted to.
“If he loves you, he’ll come around”
“I hope it won’t be too late when that happens, if it happens” Ruki said trying to evade Hayate’s tongue that was on his earlobe and making him squirm.
“Come on, I’ll make you forget him for awhile” was the last thing Hayate said as he pulled Ruki towards the shower with him.

“…en are you and Suzuki-san going to get married?”
“Huh?” Naoko questioned as she turned to face her mother from her task of washing the dishes.
“I asked you when you and Suzuki-san are going to get married?” Her mother queried again, wiggling her eyebrows in a very suggestive manner.
“Mom! I have no idea! We’re still young you know!” she whined, feeling like a 15 year-old all over again.
“But you’re both almost in your thirties. The whole family is waiting for you to settle down and have babies!” She said with a bright smile on her lips as she laid the clean plates in the cupboard.
“I’m not almost in my thirties. For gods sake I’m only turning 26 this year!”
“Your sister had her first baby when she was 22”
“Is this about me having babies so that you can build an army of grandchildren?”
“No, of course not. Your old mother just wants to see you happy”
“Well for your better information I’m not having any kids or getting married. At least not now” she grumbled.
“If Suzuki-san was a real man, you would already be taking care of your own little baby” her mother continued, completely oblivious to the drama that had been going on in Naoko‘s life.
“Well maybe he isn’t then!” Naoko huffed and started venting out her anger on the defenseless plates as she scrubbed them clean.
“Then you should find a new man” the older woman said with a sparkle in her eye as she walked out of the kitchen humming some old song.
“Maybe I just happen to like him the way he is!” Naoko shouted after her. Or maybe I’m just too afraid to leave him.

“Maybe I should call him. He seemed sort of upset and now I feel bad for answering the phone while we were at it.” Uruha mused as he lay with his head on Aoi’s lap.
“Mmm. I think it might be a good idea. He is supposed to be your best friend after all.” Aoi murmured, concentrating on the tv program.
“You have to admit it was kind of funny though. He didn’t suspect a thing until I happened to moan out your name.” Uruha giggled.
“Ok. It was funny. Even I have to admit to that, but it was really cruel of you Kitten.”
“Yeah. I know.” Uruha sighed. “I guess I’ll go and give him a call. That is if he’ll even answer.” He continued, getting up and going to find his phone.
“It’s your own fault if he doesn’t. I told you to ignore it.” Aoi called out after his lover.
Uruha found his phone on the nightstand. He sat down on the bed and dialed Reita’s number. Listening to the ringing he started to fiddle with the bedcover.
“I’m not sure that I should even be answering since that trick you pulled on me was plain out dirty. You better not be fucking this time.”
Reita’s voice startled Uruha. He hadn’t expected for the bassist to answer the phone so quickly.
“We’re not. Aoi is in the living room watching tv and I’m sitting in the bedroom. So sorry, no phone sex for you.”
“As if I really wanted a repeat of what happened earlier. You do realize that you’re as gross as they come, don’t you?”
“But you still love me. I am your best friend after all.”
“Some best friend you are…” Uruha heard Reita mumble.
“So want to tell me what’s up? What’s this about Naoko leaving? What happened?”
“Yesterday, after the interview I got home and she was drunk. She threw a fit. I thought that we’d worked it out. She was all eager in the morning and then when I got home she wouldn’t even let me touch her.”
“Oh my! I’m sorry for what happened between you two.”
“Well that’s not all of it. I thought that everything was ok between us. Or… well... somewhat ok, but this morning when I got up she was gone. At first I thought that she’d gone to the store, but then I found the note she’d written. All it said was that she was going to visit her mother and that she’d call when she had the time.”
“That’s it?! That’s all she said?”
“Yeah. And when I tried calling her she wouldn’t answer. I don’t want to lose her Uruha. She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I love her for fuck’s sake.”
“What about that guy? Reita, I know that you’re my best friend and that’s probably the reason that I’m gonna say this. You need to tell Naoko about him. You need to confess and then decide what you want to do.”
“I know Uru. And I’ve already decided. I’m going to end it with that guy. Naoko is too precious for me to lose her. I’m not going to mess up again. I just hope that she can forgive me.”
“That’s good Reita. I’m proud of you.”
“Thanks.”
“Hey listen. I need to run. I promised Aoi that I’d watch a movie with him and before that I probably have to make us something to eat. I’ll talk to you later, alright?”
“Sure. You guys have fun.” Reita sighed into the phone, starting to feel lonely and missing Naoko.
“And you take care, ok? Talk to you later. Bye”
“Bye”

After hearing the hottest neighborhood gossip, watching mind numbing game shows and almost falling asleep in the living room, Naoko decided that a nice walk in the town that her childhood took place in was in order. Naoko made her way up to her room to grab her keys, cigarettes and a little bit of money just in case. She decided to leave her phone at home. Turning it off and throwing it somewhere on the bed, she then made her way downstairs again.
“I’m heading out for a breath of fresh air; I won’t be out for too long.” Naoko called out to her mother as she headed for the front door and out of the house.
Making her way towards the town, she remembered a little coffee shop that might still be open. She took in all the small details her eyes were able to catch. For a moment she found peace as she was surrounded by familiar scents and scenery.
Reaching the small park that she was heading for, Naoko sat down on the grass, closed her eyes and let memories flood her mind. All too soon her smile faded as her mind stumbled on Reita. How she had thought that he was a complete dork when she first met him. Then suddenly going on a date with him and at the end of the evening finding herself in his bed. And now she had been living with him for almost 2 years. Opening her eyes she dug out her cigarettes and lit one.
The night air was starting to get a bit chilly and Naoko could feel her bum freezing as she still was sitting on the grass. Stiffly she scrambled to her feet and decided to head for the coffee shop to get some coffee to warm her up. Near the vending machines standing on the street that she was walking down she spotted a familiar figure.
“Kai?” she called out unsure of whether the person really was the drummer or someone that looked like him.
Kai turned around. “Naoko? Fancy seeing you here. What’s up? Where’s Reita?”
“It is you. Nothing much, just visiting my mom. Reita’s at home. I needed a bit of time to myself.”
“Oh. Where are you headed?”
“I was going to go and grab a cup of hot coffee from the café down the street and then continue my stroll. Want to join me?”
“Yeah, sure. Why not? I’m not doing anything special.”
Kai and Naoko walked to the café, grabbed a cup of coffee each and then headed back out to continue walking and chatting.

Uruha lay with his head in Aoi’s lap watching the movie that they had rented, though his mind was elsewhere. Aoi’s hand stroked his lover’s hair lazily almost lulling Uruha to sleep.
“Aoi?” he suddenly asked his voice drowsy.
“What is it Kitten?”
“Umm… What would you say to going out to town for a couple of beers tonight with Reita?” Uruha cautiously questioned his lover, lifting his head from the other’s lap and looking at him.
“I don’t know. Why?”
“Reita seems a little down in the dumps and I thought that as his best friend it was my job to try and cheer him up.” Uruha said moving to straddle Aoi’s lap and leaning in to ghost his lips over Aoi’s.
Aoi shrugged. “Yeah, sure. I guess I could use a bit of fun myself.” He said trying to sound nonchalant.
“What do you mean? Aren’t I fun enough for you?” Uruha said pouting.
“Oh you are Kitten. Believe me, you are. What I mean is we haven’t had a guys night out in a while, so this might turn out to be a ton of fun.” Aoi said smirking.
“Oh that better be what you mean or you won’t be getting any for a while.” Uruha huffed.
Aoi placed his hands on Uruha’s slender hips and leaned in to give his lover a kiss.
“Oh it is. Now be a good Kitten and go call Reita.”
Uruha reluctantly got up and turned to head for the bedroom. Aoi ogled the view in front of him. Uruha was prancing around wearing nothing more than a long, baggy t-shirt and boxers and the sight was enough to take Aoi’s mind all the way down into the gutters. He gave a playful slap on Uruha’s ass before bounding for the bathroom.

After their little morning exercise in the shower Hayate had left for work and Ruki was left to entertain himself for the rest of the day. Normally on a day off he would’ve gone shopping or met his friends and done something fun with them but not today. Not when he had a little dark cloud hanging over him and following him where ever he went.
Allowing himself to miss Reita, Ruki had plunged into the numbing pain of love sickness. He did love Reita, but after all that they had done and what had happened, he had to admit that the Reita he loved was half fictional. After all, he was just a human like the rest of them. Somehow it made Ruki feel like Reita had let him down without even knowing it. He wanted Reita to give him all of his attention and not just 74 sweaty minutes once in a while.
“This is starting to sound like a father-child relationship gone bad” Ruki bitterly chuckled to himself as he flipped through the channels.
Everyone he had dated after meeting Reita had only served the purpose of filling the cavity that the bassist had managed to delve in his heart. He could still remember the shy but surprisingly lively Reita with the horrible yellowish hairdo. My hair wasn’t really any better at the time Ruki mocked himself as he continued reminiscing their history together. Smiling to himself he recalled every time the terror twins, Reita and Uruha, had gotten shit faced and tried to pick up girls, Uruha ending up getting more girls than he wanted and Reita crying about his bad luck with women against Ruki’s shoulder. Would he have done the same things back then that he now has no problems doing with me? Or would young Reita only have freaked out?
Ruki’s thoughts wandered over to all that had happened between them. Though Reita denied his feelings, Ruki knew that there was something there. Why else would the bassist have confessed to Uruha? And said that Ruki took his breath away? There had to be something more to Reita’s feelings than just plain friendship and animalistic lust. The only thing left for Ruki to do was to hope that what Hayate had said was true.

“C’mon Reita drink up!” Uruha cheered Reita who had been staring at his beer for at least the last 5 minutes.
Still keeping his eyes on the beer in front of him, Reita grabbed the glass and took one big gulp from it.
“Well isn’t he the life of the party?” Aoi smirked to Uruha before he continued to direct his words to Reita “Do you want to fill me in on why you’re so upset?”
“I tried calling Naoko before I left home. Twice. All of my calls get directed straight to her answering machine”
“What happened between you two?” Aoi queried before he emptied his glass.
“What? Hasn’t Uruha told you anything?” Reita exclaimed out of pure amazement and lifted his eyes from the golden liquid before him.
“I’m not that bad of a gossiper you know!” came Uruha’s slightly wounded retort.
“Yeah. I know. Sorry. I just thought that you don’t keep secrets from each other.”
“We do if it’s a promise to someone else.” Aoi said. “So tell me, what’s been going on?”
“Umm…” Reita started out, scratching the back of his neck. “I… I’ve been cheating on Naoko.”
“Wait a minute!! You what?! You’re cheating on her?!” Aoi exclaimed.
Reita flinched at the tone of Aoi’s voice and looked down at his glass once again.
“Yeah. I’ve cheated on her and the last time that it happened it was in our own bed. I don’t know what’s gotten into me. He just takes my breath away, but I love Naoko and I don’t want to lose her.”
“Wait, did you just say HE?!”
“Yes Aoi. I said he. I’m cheating on Naoko with a guy, though she seems to think that it’s a woman.”
“Does Naoko know?”
“Well technically, no. She doesn’t. She thinks that it’s a woman and I told her that I wasn’t cheating on her. I know it was stupid, but I was just shocked. Anyways, she left this morning to go to her mother’s. She left me a note and now she won’t answer my phone calls.”
“Well I don’t blame her” Aoi snorted.
At this point Uruha felt that it would be convenient to get more drinks and slinked from between Aoi and the table, letting his hand brush not so lightly against his lover’s thigh, heading for the bar with a small sway to his step.
Nodding and lowering his head in shame, Reita was at a loss for words thanks to Aoi’s harsh words.
“I really hope that you know that what you have done is really the worst thing that you can do to a person that loves and trusts you? Can you imagine how she must’ve felt when you lied straight to her face and she knew that you were actually lying? Can you?” Aoi continued verbally whipping Reita who was now trying to slide under the table to hide from Aoi’s intense stare.
“Yeah…I know. If only I could get in touch with Naoko I would tell her the truth. I just want to end it with the guy and…be with Naoko if she still wants me…” Reita mumbled and drank the rest of his beer.
Aoi continued to bore a hole in Reita’s head for a while until he finally leaned back on the sofa of the booth and his expression softened a bit. “Are you 100% sure that’s what you want? Don’t stay with Naoko only because you feel obliged to, that would be almost as horrible as what you have already done to her”.
“I’m 100% sure.” Reita said shortly and turned his eyes to Uruha, who was busy balancing a tray of shots and beers, taking careful steps towards their table.
“Need help with that Kitten?” Aoi asked as he turned his eyes towards his lover.
Uruha placed the tray down on the table and gave Aoi a peck on his cheek. “You’re sweet for asking, but the only thing that I’m gonna need help with is drinking all this.” the guitarist said giggling at his own joke.
“What is all this anyways?” Reita questioned eyeing the tray with suspicion.
“Tequila! And more beer!” the younger guitarist exclaimed and placed a shot glass in front of the other two.
Oh no! Not this again! I’m going to be taking care of a very hung over Uruha tomorrow if the last time we did tequila shots is anything to go by. I just hope that Reita will be able to keep up with Kitten’s pace. Aoi grumbled in his mind, remembering the last time that he had done tequila shots with his lover.
“Bottoms up!” Uruha said raising his shot glass, ready to lick the salt off his hand. The other two followed suite and soon they had downed a couple of shots each.
Reita shuddered at the taste. “Man! This is nasty! I haven’t had tequila in ages.”
Aoi realized that Reita had really made up his mind so he quit pestering him and instead tried to cheer the bassist up with random stories and lame jokes.
Uruha’s hand kept wandering to Aoi’s thigh, brushing over his crotch and teasing the raven-haired guitarist. Aoi was in the middle of taking a sip from his beer when all of a sudden he felt Uruha’s hand slip into his pants and under the waist band of his boxers, long fingers wrapping around his cock. Aoi gasped, making him inhale some of the beer and start to sputter. Aoi hacked, trying to get the beer out of his lungs.
“Oh my god! Aoi, are you alright?” Uruha exclaimed in concern, drawing his hand away quickly to pat his lover on the back. Aoi could only nod, tears stinging his eyes.
“I’m fine.” Aoi choked out.
When the hell did he get the button and the zipper of my pants undone? Aoi mused still coughing slightly.
Reita cackled. “Too strong for you there, old fart? Can’t handle it?”
Aoi flicked Reita off and slouched down a bit. “Look who’s talking! You’re the one that’s starting to be drunk. I can handle my liquor just fine thank you.” Aoi said indignantly.
He felt Uruha’s hand wander up his thigh once again. Aoi raised an eyebrow slightly at the other guitarist, but Uruha ignored him and instead engaged Reita in a very intense conversation about the newest video game that the two were into.
Uruha’s hand feathered over Aoi’s stomach as if in warning and then slipped down into Aoi’s boxers once again. His fingers wrapped around Aoi’s length and he teased the raven-haired guitarist for all that he was worth, stroking and caressing Aoi with his long and slender fingers. Aoi tried to keep his face looking calm, collected and interested. He could feel the warmth pooling in the pit of his stomach as his lover continued to caress his hard length in lazy strokes that remained unseen to Reita.
What’s up with Aoi? He looks like he’s having major stomach problems. Geez! He better not get me sick! Reita mused over his drunken stupor.
Aoi could feel himself starting to lose his composure due to Uruha’s debauchery under the table. Reita seemed to be oblivious to what was happening, but that didn’t surprise Aoi much since the bassist was well on his way to being utterly and overly wasted. He was giggling like a little girl at Uruha’s stupid comments about random people and he was swaying in his seat. Deciding that it was time to head home before the bassist passed out, Aoi swatted Uruha’s hand away and discreetly did his pants up, relieved that he’d worn loose fitting pants so that his erection wasn’t visible. I’d hate to have Reita see that, since I did tell him that I’d never leave the house with a stiffy. Not that it’s true since Uruha caused this here and not at home. What the hell is he up to anyways? He could have waited until we got home.
“I think Mr.Noseless-man here has had enough. We better take him home before he starts hurling.” Aoi stated to his lover noticing the slightly greenish tinge to the bassist’s skin.
“I would never puke. “ Reita protested in a drunker slur.
“Oh yeah?” Uruha stated “What about that time when you and I got wasted off our asses on that whiskey we stole? I remember you puking your guts out that night!” he giggled at the memory.
“I was much younger and weaker back then. Nowadays I’m a full grown man” Reita slurred as he staggered towards the exit, closely followed by Aoi who was dragging Uruha behind him.
Once outside Reita slumped on the curb and lit one crumpled cigarette.
“Reita we’re going to call two cabs, is that all right with you?” Aoi asked as he flipped his phone open and was about to call.
“Uhhuh” came Reita’s answer somewhere between his knees.
Uruha, who in his drunken state felt the need to mother everyone, sat beside Reita and rubbed his back, his hand freezing in its spot when he heard a small sniffle.
“Reita are you crying?”
“No, I’m not.” He sniffled, but then turned to Uruha and grabbed him into a hug. “It’s just that I love her so much, Uru.” The bassist wailed.
“Shhh. It’s ok. Everything will be fine.” Uruha cooed, trying to calm his best friend down.
“… and Ruki hates me now. I don’t want to lose him too.” Reita whimpered.
Aoi raised an eyebrow at the statement, but didn’t say a thing to the other two. Why the hell would Ruki hate Reita? And why would Reita lose Ruki? They’re friends for fuck’s sake! There’s something really fishy about this… Aoi mused to himself.
“Shhh, Rei. I’m sure that Ruki doesn’t hate you. He’s your friend, just like me. And I don’t hate you. You’ll never lose Ruki’s friendship. I’m sure of it! He’d never do that to you.” Uruha continued to hug and calm his best friend down oblivious to what Reita really meant.
All of a sudden Reita ripped himself out of the other’s hold and staggered off. Before Reita managed get to the safety of a bush nearby his stomach decided to turn against him and he ended up, not so elegantly hurling on the sidewalk. Aoi had to look away, his face burning red from embarrassment.
Still being the drunken mother hen, Uruha scurried over to Reita to pat him on the back.
“You need any paper?” He queried trying to keep some distance between him and his smelly friend.
“You don’t need to. You probably hate me too” Reita slurred as he wiped his mouth with the sleeve of his jacket.
“Reita stop it already! Nobody hates you!” Uruha growled as he pulled the other man back up to a standing position. “You know, at this very second you remind me of a drunken teen girl puking and being all dramatic” Uruha smirked wiping Reita’s mouth with the paper in his hand “There we go, much better!”
“Stop fussing” Reita grumbled and tried to swat Uruha’s hand away and stumbled back towards Aoi.
Just then the taxi arrived and Aoi sighed in relief after he had told the taxi driver where to drop Reita off and getting reassurances from the bassist that he would be fine on his own.
“Our taxi is here too, Kitten. Shall we?”
“Let’s.” Uruha said and climbed into the back followed by Aoi.
Aoi gave the address of their apartment and as the taxi started heading in the direction of it Aoi turned to Uruha.
“What the hell was that in the club?”
“What do you mean?” Uruha asked, feigning innocence.
“You know perfectly well what I mean. I practically choked on my beer thanks to you.”
Uruha just yawned and leaned to place his head in Aoi’s lap. “Sorry.” He mumbled
Aoi shrugged and turned to look out of the window. He felt Uruha’s hand rubbing him through his jeans.
“You know, if you’re going to continue doing that to me then you’re most definitely going to have to take care of it too.” Aoi said to his lover, a slight smirk adorning his lips.
“Mmmhmm.” Uruha hummed and lifted his head so that he was able to release Aoi’s hardened length from its confines. He lazily dragged his fingers down the shaft before taking a hold of the base and placing his pouting lips over the head.
Aoi silently gasped. “Uruha stop” he whispered.
“Sshhh” came the silencing reply from between Uruha’s lips before he went back to work and made it awfully hard for Aoi to just sit there and make it look like his friend had passed out on his lap.

“The weather is quite nice tonight” Kai said trying not to stutter as he and Naoko walked in the last rays of sunshine.
“Mmmmm” Naoko hummed as a response.
“So how have you been?” Kai asked still quite unsure how to go about things.
“Not so great. A lot of stuff has happened, but nothing that I won’t live through” she said as the stopped and sat down at one of the many benches located in the park.
“Oh. Well it’s good that you’re coping.”
“What about you? I haven’t seen you in a while.”
“I’m doing fine. We’ve been busy with recording and stuff, but we’re taking a well deserved break. It gets a bit tiring sitting in the studio all the time.”
“Yeah. I can understand that. That’s why I’m glad that I can do my work from home. No need to sit at the office all day.”
“You’re lucky. We have to go to the studio if we plan on getting anything done. Knowing the guys they’d just slack off or fuck around if they worked from home. Aoi and Uruha wouldn’t get anything done. Those two horny bastards would be all over each other. And Ruki would probably badger Reita into…” Kai didn’t finish his sentence, noticing the pained look on Naoko’s face. “Sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything.”
“No, it’s alright. It’s just that I’m getting so frustrated with him.” Naoko said, the anger that she felt towards the bassist making its way to the surface. After saying that, they both fell back to the uncomfortable silence. Kai staring into his cup of coffee like it was the most intriguing thing of the century and Naoko looking at her hands with a sad look on her face.
Now that Kai was alone with Naoko the thoughts he had of her raced through his mind, telling him that stealing one kiss from her wouldn’t hurt anyone. Taking sideways glances at the sad woman sitting beside him, he felt the urge only grow bigger and finally Kai caved in, gently grabbing her chin he lifted her face to meet his and quickly moved to place a tender kiss on her lips. Not wanting to see the result he turned his face away not seeing how the blush that had crept on Naoko’s tinted her cheeks all rosy.
Still speechless and at a loss for words Naoko only stared at the back of Kai’s head. Why had he done that? Why was she suddenly so happy? Acting on instinct Naoko patted Kai’s shoulder to get him to face her again.
“I’m really sorry. I shouldn’t have done that” Kai mumbled.
Naoko didn’t respond to Kai’s apology, only leaned in closer and sealed his lips with hers in answer to his previous actions.
Kai was dumbstruck. He hadn’t expected for Naoko to react this way. He had expected a slap in the face or for her to storm off in a huff. Not for her to kiss him back.
Naoko’s kiss was needier than his. She tilted her head to deepen the kiss and when Naoko let her tongue slither out and gently trace Kai’s lips, Kai could only comply with her silent request. He parted his lips and felt Naoko’s tongue dive into his mouth, massaging his with her own.
Wait a minute!? What am I doing? Naoko’s conscience started to eat away at her. I’m stooping as low as Reita. This can’t be happening! Naoko stop it!
Kai felt Naoko freeze up and move away from him.
“I… I.. I’m sorry” she stuttered and got up, rushing away from Kai and leaving him sitting on the bench all alone. Stunned.

After having lost count of the times he had already emptied his stomach onto the white porcelain, Reita stayed kneeling in front of the toiled resting his chin on the cold surface. Why?! Why did I have to drink so much? Reita cursed inwardly as the world continued spinning in his eyes even though he had been awake for a few hours. The magic of tequila, huh? he quoted Uruha in his head as he brushed his teeth for the tenth time that morning.
With shaky feet he made his way back to his bed and groaned as he slipped back into the welcoming softness of his sheets. I should call Naoko. Maybe she’ll answer this time. Reita grabbed his phone that was resting on the night stand and called Naoko.
After hearing Naoko’s recorded voice for the fourth time he gave up and let his hand fall back to the bed, the phone still in his grasp. Still unable to close his eyes, thanks to his violent hangover, Reita kept staring at the ceiling.
Maybe I should talk to Ruki first and sort things out with him.
Deciding that it was late enough he pressed the “call” button, lifted the phone back to his ear and waited.
~*~
Ruki was awakened from his slumber by the very rude manner his phone was ringing in, somewhere far away from his bed. With sluggish movements he dragged himself out of the comfort that his warm blanket provided. Ruki grabbed the damned thing that was making sounds loud enough to split his scull, answering it with an annoyed grunt.
“Bad morning?” he heard Reita ask.
“No. You just happened to wake me up.”
“Oh. Sorry. Were you up late last night?”
“No. I’m just tired in a general sense.”
“Oh. What’s gotten you so tired?”
“Did you call me to play Jeopardy or did you actually have something in mind?” Ruki grumbled.
“Ummm… Yeah. I actually called to ask you whether we could meet up. We need to talk.” Reita’s voice sounded strained, as if he was in a great deal of pain.
“Oh? Sounds serious. Anything in particular that you want to talk about?”
“Well it sort of is, but I don’t want to talk about it over the phone. I’d rather we do it face to face.”
“What’s up with you? You sound like you swallowed a ton of gravel and you’re on your deathbed or something. Rough night?”
“Uruha dragged me out for a couple of drinks. Next time he does, remind me not to go, and also, remind me never to drink tequila again.”
Ruki laughed. “Awwww. Does poor Reirei have a hang over?” he cooed to the bassist.
“Shut up shrimp... Ow...My head…”
Instead of blowing up at Reita for calling him a shrimp, Ruki just cackled. “Serves you right.”
“…”
“…”
“So… Anyways… Can we meet up somewhere?”
“How about you drag your ass over to my place? I’m not going anywhere today.”
“Fine. I’ll be over there as soon as I feel a bit peachier.”
“Good. See you then.”
“Yeah. Bye”
Ruki hung up and then leaned back to lie down in his bed. He let the hand that held the phone fall to over his eyes.
He sounded really serious. I wonder what he wants to talk about. Hmmm… Maybe he’s decided to dump Naoko or something. He shrugged to himself at his last thought. He’d find out soon enough.

Reita wiped the cold sweat off his forehead as he readied himself to press Ruki’s doorbell. Okay this is it. I’m ending this fuckery. No more sneaking around and no more friendship falling to ruins. Whether it was his hangover or the nasty feeling of nervousness building in the pits of his stomach, his hand shook as he lifted his finger to meet the little button on the wall. Finally it was done and Ruki stood peeking at Reita behind his door, opening the safety lock after a while and letting him in.
In silence Reita walked into the living room and found a good spot to stand. He wasn’t going to sit on the couch; he already knew what being close to Ruki could lead to. Anxiously he eyed Ruki as he sat on the infamous couch and brought his eyes to meet Reita’s.
“So what did you want to talk about?” Ruki asked before he went back to nibbling his lower lip.
“About us.” was all that Reita could blurt out as he tried to think of how to say what he was about to say.
“What about us?” Ruki was already terrified, somehow he knew where this was going and he didn’t want that.
After staring at the floor under his feet and shifting uncomfortably Reita opened his mouth again
“I’ve decided that…I…umm…we need to stop.”
“Stop what?” For the first time Ruki let his feelings of hurt bubble on the surface and the pain he was feeling was now evident in his wavering voice.
“I trust that you know what I mean. I don’t want to hurt Naoko any more than I already have” Reita sighed.
Thick silence once again fell between them. Reita continued shifting and Ruki just sat there staring at the table with a broken expression on his face.
“This doesn’t mean that I don’t want things to go back to the way they were. I really do. I want us to be what we were before all this happened.”
“Fat chance of that happening…” Ruki mumbled.
“I know, but I’m going to try my hardest not to let this affect us…”
“It already has, Reita!” Ruki burst out saying. “It effected us the first time that we kissed, you asshole! And what about what you said to me that one night?! I recall you saying that you wished that we could be like that forever. Or were those just empty words?”
Reita didn’t know what to say. He stood there in the living room nibbling on his thumbnail and before he could get his thoughts together and put them into words Ruki was standing before him. The smaller man grabbed a hold of the front of Reita’s shirt.
“Why, Reita? What have I ever done to you?”
“You made me fall for you” Reita whispered before he continued “Ruki this is hard for me and I’m not saying that it isn’t hard for you too, but I never intended things like this to happen in my life”
Ruki’s grip on his shirt tightened as he stared at Reita with a pure look of disbelief on his features “You can’t plan your life from the start to the end Reita”
“No I can’t…but I’ve made my decision and this time I’m going to act on it”
That broke something in Ruki and he buried his face in Reita’s shirt finally freeing all the pent up feelings as the first tears rolled on his cheeks.
“Just don’t…Reita please don’t leave me. I love you” he begged between sobs
Reita froze on the spot not knowing what to do with a crying Ruki. The tears seeping through his shirt awakened him from his state of shock and at that moment wrapping his arms around Ruki felt like the right thing to do. For some time he held Ruki as the smaller man was shaking and sobbing, rubbing soothing circles on his back. When Ruki went quiet he released him from his arms and gently grabbed his chin to lift his face. As their eyes met Reita pressed a soft kiss on the other’s forehead and voiced out the smallest “I’m sorry.” that he could muster before turning and starting to head for the door.
Just as he was about to reach the door he heard Ruki’s footsteps coming from behind him. Reita turned towards the sound only to be tackled against the door by Ruki. Before Reita was able to push the vocalist away from him Ruki’s lips were on his. The kiss spoke for itself. It was pleading, needy and demanding. Ruki wasn’t going to give up easily, not on something that meant the world to him. Reita relished in the feeling of Ruki’s plush lips on his before realizing what was happening and pushing the vocalist away.
“Please Ruki… don’t.” With that Reita turned and walked out of the apartment leaving behind a distraught Ruki. He stood frozen in his spot just staring at the door as numbness began to envelope him.
