in which i reveal a very boring ~secret~

First of all, YAY I AM DONE WITH ONE FINAL AND ALSO I DID WELL ON MY BIG ENGINEERING PRESENTATION. I have one more final to do, and it's next Thursday so I have time to study. GOOD, BECAUSE IT'S CIRCUITS AND I JUST #)$*#(%*%

Anyway.

My secret is that I am a big Trekkie. Freaking out over Star Trek is not something that people can ever picture me doing, but then again, most people think I sit around and read old books and talk about poetry.

Let's be real, though. I only spend 30% of my week doing that. The other 70% is spent having a nervous breakdown about any one of my fandoms. I have to say though, the fandom that gives me the most feelings at 2:30AM is Star Trek.

SO LET'S TALK ABOUT IT:

Okay, so.

Star Trek.

When I was a freshman, my roommate Honora discovered that I had never seen the 2009 reboot of Star Trek. In fact, I didn't know anything about Star Trek. She had really enjoyed the film and so I decided to watch it with her. It was streaming on Netflix at the time, so we were covered. I liked the film and...that was basically it. My relationship with Star Trek ended as quickly as it had begun.

A year later, after Desperate Housewives had wrapped up, I realized that I didn't have anything to watch during my nightly blow-drying of my hair ritual. I poked around Netflix for a bit and then thought to myself, "Might as well watch Star Trek." I watched the first (un-aired) episode of the original series, "The Cage." Pike was still captain of the Enterprise. The episode was...okay. It took me a whole week to get to episode two. And then there was Kirk and Bones and Spock and Uhura and Scotty and Nurse Chapel and I was a goner two minutes in.

I love Star Trek for many, many reasons. I love the bromance that Kirk, Spock and Bones share. I love the campy humor. I love that it doesn't take itself seriously at all. I love that the women hold their own 90% of the time. I love the Enterprise. I love Sulu and Chekov and their little conversations at the helm. I love the sick bay and I love Nurse Chapel.

I JUST LOVE EVERYBODY OKAY I CAN'T EXPLAIN MY FEELINGS FOR THIS SHOW

My favorite episodes of Star Trek are the ones that involve time travel. I LOVE watching Kirk and Spock go back in time because hilarity always ensues. Kirk always tries to get with a chick, who ends up developing standards right before he can tap that, and Spock raises his eyebrows in the most sassy, un-Vulcan way. Bones is exasperated at all times and I just can't handle all the feelings this show gives me.

Which brings me to the fact that I almost had a breakdown when I watched the last episode of the series. Unfortunately, it was cancelled during the third season. I knew this but then again it's not like I knew I was going to get attached to this stupid ship and this stupid crew with their stupid captain that can't do anything right.

A lot of people tell me to watch the Next Generation because the crew is 'better' but with all due respect my attachment to the original crew runs deep.

Anyway, you should watch the new Star Trek trailer:
