oh god
So I totally haven't had time for anything lately, but I happened to chance upon Goku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei episode 1 that was just subbed by Volans and had to post about it because it was ridiculous.
Starting it off, a beautiful redo of the Zetsubou Sensei drawing song, followed by a VERY dark, very hardcore and cool cool cool redo of the Kusou Runba opening. After this I because slightly less impressed, because it seems they've gotten some new staff, or have fallen out of SZS practice, as they seem to have changed their eye-drawing style as well as anatomy slightly from the first two seasons, as well as a very vibrant Matoi kimono! Plus tons of new screentones, and more moe-fullbody style!
Voice actor-wise, I felt that Matoi's CV was a little off, but seemed to adjust back to normal after a few lines. Yuko Goto was a bit too Mikuru, but then again, Abiru's character was purposely cheerful-like for those scenes. It just sounded strange. Inoue's voice was flawless, as usual. :D !
As for jokes - they've definitely gotten better. I actually have not read that much of the manga, so I can't really compare to the original (ha) but the way they were presented were excellent. The director seemed to decide that even briefer quick-scenes were necessary, and we flash between cels like ridiculous, which really added some hilarity to the scenes. But - OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF HARUHI REFERENCES, IT WAS AMAZING. And then a Lucky Star bit as well; Shaft really likes KyoAni apparently, I remember that one subliminal poster message in Zoku...
I liked how they brought back most of the jokes from the first two seasons, such as Maria's vanishing forehead, almost like a memory refresher to get us back into the whole SZS mood. And then - NECK TRAINING! :D What will they do to take the place for the rest of the season, then...?
The ending - a hilarious finisher featuring Kometa's original drawing style replacing Nozomu in the Marionette ending. Absolutely perfect.
I actually don't have much to say or summarize at all. I just felt I had to say something. D:
