Anyways...
I woke up today, and the first thing I did was watch the last two episodes of Neon Genesis Evangelion, followed by CNN. I am officially lame. Now I have Cruel Angel's Thesis stuck in my head...
The Heroes cast was on Larry King Live! ^^ I loved seeing their interviews, but I have wonder where Milo and Zachary were. I am so excited for the new episode-this is the first time I find myself wishing it was Monday! I've been waiting since the last episode before the hiatus for the episode that would explore the future, and this looks like it won't disappoint. Did I spot Peter and Niki/Jessica kissing in the commercial? Now that will be interesting, and I wonder how Nathan thinks of it. Though he seems to be getting along pretty well with Mohinder in the commercials (Must stop compulsive slashing...) Remember-Monday @ 9 on NBC!
I'm addicted to the song "Love KAN Coffee" by Maki Goto recently. "Love KAN Coffee" is a surprisingly mature song for a Hello!Project member. It has a cosmopolitan feel to it, but is also very unique with the use of horns and that "wooshing" sound. It has a strong, bouncing beat, and Maki's voice just moves perfectly and blends with it, with the vocals and instrumental complementing each other perfectly. Maki sings with a confident voice, but with a slight teasing nature to it, like she's seducing us into her NYC upper-class life. This song makes me think of Keith/Anderson a little bit. Maybe it because it's a mix of the sophisticated (Anderson) and the unexpected (Keith) that complements each other perfectly. I'm trying to find the lyrics translated (or in Japanese text so I can ask a Japanese-speaking person to translate it for me), and then I will provide a more in depth look at this song. I'm putting the song up for d/l
here, if anyone wants it. It's Keith/Andy.... XD
I drew this picture of one of the characters from Steph and my original comic, "NYC Music Story."
Her name is Koi Ichihara, and she is the guitarist for the band The Fat Flamingoes. I actually created her three years ago as a Teen Titans OC, but she's developed very much since then into her own well-rounded character. She used to be completely different than she is now, and was once a *le gasp* Mary-Sue. So glad that I got over that! XD Her character design, name, everything was completely different, with the only similarity that she was a female hero who had an interest in music and was a swordfighter (she doesn't use swords anymore, because she's isn't a superhero anymore) and lived with her grandparents before moving out. While she didn't start out either Japanese, with a brother, or a lesbian, she became one early on, so I'm counting that in with the similarities. She's basically the same now in those regards, but personality and backround have changed drastically. She has a special place in my heart, and I can't not want to draw her and her brother, as they have alwasy been two of my favorite characters I've ever created. I'll post of picture of her brother, Noeru, at a later date, as well as pictures of the other characters.
Dear Kio Shimoku,
Recently, I read the eigth volume of the mange Genshiken. It's been a favorite of mine sine I read it this past summer for it's quirky humour and likeable characters. I loved Saki's twisted relationship with Kohsaka and the Genshiken, Ohno's cosplay and similarity to myself, Sasahara's embarrasment at his facsination with anime and manga culture, and Madarame's crudeness.
Then Ogiue was introduced in volume four. I had no problem with her at first, thinking she would be a very interesting addition to the Genshiken, and I loved that female otaku were well represented. I wasn't fond of her "moe" look, but I figured if she was an interesting character I could learn to ignore it. She had a few cute moments, especially her cosplay (though mainly for Saki's insistance on her getting into a costume). And then her MadaSasa doujinshi-classic, and one of the most remembered moments by many Genshiken fans. I was set to fall in love with her, even if I did think that Sasahara should've been bottom. However, this chapter also set off another plot point-a romance between Sasahara and Ogiue.
I must be blind, because I didn't see any romantic connection between the two. Sure, Saki may have thought otherwise, but she drew the picture so she could draw yaoi, not because she was in love with either Sasahara or Madarame. They seemed to get along like aquaintances, not close friends or potential lovers. Tanaka and Ohno are close and act like a typical couple. Saki and Kohsaka may be far from the perfect couple, but Saki does love Kohsaka though I think she should dump his lazy ass and go out with Madarame. However, the SasaOgi pairing felt forced. However, I was willing to except it if you made it at least in character and somewhat believable.
It seems that neither of those things are possible, as volume eight shows. Since when is Ogiue a cutesy, weak, stereotypical moe girl. Though she wasn't a favorite, I admired that she was tough despite a moe look. However, the "I-am-so-fragile-please-hold-me-and-love-me-I-am-so-innoecnt" thing is a technique for lesser manga. Sasahara didn't turn out bad, and I thought his reaction to the doujinshi was perfect (I admit, I got a little hot when he said that it gave him the horn), but I disliked his comments on how fragile Ogiue was-it made him out to be a sexist pig. I know he is an otaku, but I think that it would've worked better if he had to learn that eroge doesn't equal real life. Ohno and Saki were still strong characters despite having otaku boyfriends. Clearly, you could've done this with Ogiue and made a more interesting story. I bet your target audience, twentysomething male otaku, wouldn't have like that, but I think it would've made the manga stronger.
I still love Genshiken, and will buy the ninth and final volume. I'm even thinking of creating a Genshiken doujinshi. But I don't agree with what you did to Ogiue and Sasahara, and you'll have to do something really amazing in volume nine to make me think otherwise.
Love, a dissgruntled fan.
