Wow, just found out about Patrick Swayze! My mother and brother and I would watch Ghost every time it was on, and we'd make fun of it, but we really actually liked the movie! :D So, rest in peace "Sam Wheat" :)

On a cheerier note...

givemefive ~!

Also, if you don't know, I am a huge Kanye West fan. And I've been thinking about what he did last night. On one hand, this isn't unexpected from him, he did this at a European music award show too. And at first I felt embarrassed to be his fan, and I felt bad for Taylor Swift, and I was moved by Beyoncé's kindness and class. And I still feel bad for Taylor and moved by Beyoncé, but I'm only a little embarrassed to be a Kanye fan. Because I remembered something- that being a fan of someone doesn't mean you always have to support their ideas, but it means that you should be able to forgive them if they apologize. And Kanye, after posting a probably-drunk apology, wrote something nice on his blog, and ended up making it a non-issue in a little over twenty-four hours. So maybe he has matured? I don't know, but I know I can go back to being a Kayne fan without feeling embarrassed. Well, maybe still embarrassed for him whenever I watch the video, but I'm sure even non-Kanye fans felt that xD

And I don't get the hate for Taylor Swift. Yes, her type of music is barely country. But really, who gives a fuck about what the music is labeled- is it good? One of my favorite pop-country acts, Sugarland, is barely country- they even admitted they only went into country because the more folk-pop music they wanted to do was really only played on country radio- but they are still a talented duo, no matter their genre. I'm in love with Miranda Lambert's new single (well, I'm really just in love with Miranda xD), but it's a lot more towards the rock part of country-rock. And yes, Taylor is a teen writing songs for teens about teen- that doesn't make her songs any less worthy of recognition. The last time I checked, the VMAs are aimed at teens too. As just_katarin (a fellow Kanye fangirl) said, "...I think most hatred towards Taylor Swift is based on the fact that Taylor Swift's music is directed at young girls and it is assumed that anything young girls like is crap." And I hate that. Why can't it just be recognized that you know, you're not the demographic, so you're not supposed to like it. Posts like this disgust me, to see an adult man beat down on a teenage girl like this. It's different than a teenage girl speaking out against Taylor Swift, because then it doesn't have the creepy ageist or sexist overtones. It's different than an adult man not liking Taylor Swift's music but realizing it is not for him and not treating her like the devil.

No matter what you think about Taylor Swift's music, you can't say what Kanye did was right or a great idea. Even Kanye realizes that! It's disgusting that anyone, and especially grown men, think it is okay for a teenage girl to be humiliated by an adult man in public. I know girls my age who hate Taylor Swift's music, but feel for her because they realize that they would never want that to happen to them.

I'm not really outraged by what Kanye did anymore, he has apologized and while it is still awful, I think I can begin to forgive him. I'm just still outraged by men who are cheering on Kanye's original action and think it was justified because a teenage girl is "ruining country music." Guess what? THINGS CHANGE. DEAL.

(the unrelated Timmy icon is because I needed something to cheer me up while ranting, and his smiling face and great pitching performance tonight are working!)

ETA: This blog post is much more eloquently in what I'm trying to say, and is a must read whether you agree with me or not.
