Today is my first day back at work after 3 days of jury duty. No comment on my productivity level (but I am posting here, so take that for what you will).
Jury duty was honestly pretty interesting. I work for an attorney, so I'm familiar with the way things go, generally, but I've never been in a trial before. The deliberation process was the MOST interesting, but also felt very tense and weird. I guess I pride myself on being a logical person, and I can usually navigate through complex situations and come up with an answer. But in this case, you're forced to try to explain that process to 11 other people, who might not agree with you. And 1 of them in particular didn't, and held out, and made it generally uncomfortable for everyone, so we all had to compromise with her.
I won't be specific, but this was on a personal injury claim. The compromise was that the plaintiff would receive some amount of money (MUCH smaller than what she asked for), but 11 people thought she didn't deserve anything based on the facts of the case. Giving ANY amount of money to people like that just ensures they'll do it again, in my opinion.
I read this in a description about my name: Saint Laura was a 9th-century Spanish martyr, a nun who was thrown into a vat of molten lead by the Moors.
