Composer of some of the greatest wind works ever written has died.
Malcolm Arnold was 84 years old.
Most commonly known for his score to Bridge on the River Kwai.
He wrote many works of a very stately British manner, from what I know of his output, many considered tonal but are definitely more complex in key and structure than a great deal of other stuff I've played.
I have to call Kate. She's probably going to wear all black for the next week.
It makes me want to go order the trio for bassoon, flute, and viola, bother Erik, and put on a special tribute recital.
Too bad the separate scores and parts are about $100. Bah!
Tam'O'Shanter forever! :(
