So today I had my first try at joining a gaming competition for Girls, which I must let you know beforehand, is not that big of a deal. XD KDU had opened a new campus in SS13 and to celebrate the launch, our anime club was allowed to hold a gaming event and as we had sponsorship from Animax, how could we resist?
The game focused on popular PS3 fighting games, Soul Calibur 4, Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6. Anyone could join these games, but there was a special section for girls to join after these games were done, as there were prizes for 4 categories. And as it was obvious that we wouldn't get much girls to play, I decided to join to add the number despite never playing any of the games mentioned. Mostly I just watch and cheer. XD
Yvonne and Jamie, known gamers in the club, joined us and joined the earlier Soul Calibur 4 competition. They registered as well for the Girl Gamers competition but as the games went on, they couldn't stay back long and had to leave. In the end, I was the only girl still available to play, which was hilarious considering I have never played these games. In the end, Sam managed to rope in two other girls who either knew a little of how to play a certain game, or like me knew NOTHING at all.
So Sam decided that we would each play 3 games, and as we didn't have Tekken 6 anymore (Jamie took it back with her), we played Soul Calibur 4, Street Fighter IV and BlazBlue. The winner is the one who wins 2 out of the 3 games.
So we first played Street Fighter IV, which I struggled with during the practice rounds, trying to look for a character I could use, as I tried to stop panicking and asking the guys around me, "OMG WHO DO I USE???" as I lost trying to use Ken, Guile and almost won with Chun-Li. Then when it was finally time to play, I decided to use Cammy out of pure whim...
And won the two rounds I played... @___@ Thus making me the winner of Street Fighter IV.
Next was Soul Calibur 4 which I struggled with again to find the right characters to use. One of my friends, Justin, liked Seong Mi-na and recommended I gave her a try. I struggled a heck load and had a hard time fighting the other two girls, losing a number of times, but I ultimately won just barely both rounds. And so I won Soul Calibur 4.
With that, I had won first place and we were just fighting for second and third. By the time we played Blazblue, I decided to not beat the other girls too much as I felt really bad for winning when I never played these games before and yet were obviously... err... kicking their asses. @__@ So I first chose Litchi Faye-Ling since I practiced her for a while... and I surprisingly won in the first round. Deciding enough was enough, I decided to use Taokaka and fought against what I thought was a pretty tough character, Noel Vermillion. As I had no prior practice with Taokaka, I pretty much lost easily, and felt a little sad that I didn't take up the challenge to fight Noel with Litchi. But I wanted the other girl to win and so didn't worry too much about it. ^^
The guys were commenting that I could so be a gamer if I gave it more of a try, but I don't really see myself as a serious gamer. I don't really want to join competitions, though I must admit, I like the idea of fighting tough gamers and somehow winning, I ultimately prefer just playing among friends and casual players. XD I think it's a lot more fun that way.
Anyways, all this gaming has now made me interested in cosplaying Street Fighter IV. @____@ Which is seriously, seriously insane of me considering how revealing their clothes are. And mind you, I have little to no confidence in regards to my body. But the girls there look sooooo cool that as I played them or watch them being played by others, all I could think of was, "Wouldn't it be awesome to look as badass as them??".
Yeah, shallow reasons. That's why I'm waiting to see how long I still want to cosplay Street Fighter IV. If the desire grows then... looks like I have plans for next year. Until then, I shall focus on this year! ^^
