I'm less than a week away from my first ever solo poetry show (which I've known about since May), and I've come to the conclusion that I don't have anything to read. Ok, that's not true. I've got maybe seven poems that I can read. And a cover poem. I'm really hoping that on the day before and the day of the show, I get crazy inspired and can crank out two or three more. I've been trying to just write everything that I think of down, and maybe I can turn it into something at the last minute. If you've got any good last minute inspiration tips or vibes or suggestions, I need them. I can't just declare it "Everybody Do It Night" without EasyChunk.
I was pretty lame over the weekend. Friday night, The Colin and I rented a few movies from Black Lodge. The Aristocrats was great, Wedding Crashers was alright (fuck, I forgot to drop them off!), and Wisconsin Death Trip was...well, frankly, not creepy enough. It's this movie about a town in Wisconsin over a one year period in the 1800's, during which everyone in the town went beserk. The narration was just readings of newspaper articles from the time, and it had this great potential to be a super creepy documentary, but it fell short. Yeah, some parts were pretty rough, but mostly, I just giggled. They committed so many people to the same mental institution that by the end of the movie, they had to be running out of room. Mary Sweeney, the noted cocaine-using window smasher was arrested at least six times. Seriously - everyone they locked up or arrested managed to get free again. My major problem with the movie was that they never explained what was really going on. Clearly, the town had some substance abuse problems, and some definate seasonal affective disorder, but there was no conclusion.
Anyway.
I also finished Margaret Atwood's "The Blind Assassin". Read it. Read it now. It's got one of the best surprise endings I've ever read. I've moved on to Betty Friedan's "The Feminine Mystique", and I'm tearing through it.
I also saw Camera Obscura last week. The music was good, but they were definately not the best live band I've ever seen. I think they were just unprepared for how unbelievably hot the unairconditioned HiTone is in Memphis in the summer, because they were all wilty two songs in.
I'm starting to really get ready to go back to school. I'm actually excited about senior year. Everyone called from Rachel's birthday party last night, and I wished I could have been there. I miss Justin and Becca, despite them coming to see me. I think I'm just starting to realize how difficult it's going to be for me to leave my friends behind when I graduate.
Anway.
I have pie and TelevisionWithoutPity's Gilmore Girls recaps. This is what I'm doing instead of writing poems. Maybe I can write an ode to the Gilmore Girls.
do you think it's time,
