Label your Rays

It's just one of those things where you think it should be common sense, but no, for some reason it's not. If you're going to use "Ray", would it kill you to let the reader know if it's Ray Vecchio or Ray Kowalski? I mean, it's not like I'm insisting you call him "Stan" or anything, even if I personally think there's only one true Ray, but if I'm ( Read more... )

I always assume if it's a fic on LJ then it's F/K. As most of the time that is the case (unless it's Kowalski/Vecchio). I have problems with this when compiling ds_weekly but if an author hasn't said pairing or Ray specifically then I put it on the digest as F/K. I think i've only got it wrong once in nearly a year of doing it that way.

So yeah LJ it's libale to be F/K fic.

Generally there's only a few of us writing F/V on LJ so once you know the names who do it cna get a bit easier.

But yes not labelling which Ray it is is a pet peeve of mine.

There's like what? 2, 3 dedicated F/V writers? It makes me want to cry. I may have to start adopting the "if it's not labeled, don't read" policy. I can't possibly be missing out on too many F/V fics when it seems like 99% of written dS slash is F/K.

And really, I don't ask for much, a simple "K" at the end is enough.

I can tell you at the moment there are 4 fairly regular F/V writers on LJ:
me
sdwolfpup
brynnmck
and jenoofer

LJ is pretty full of F/K. Sadly but it's getting better. When I first got an LJ there was only 1 regular F/V writer - me. So I still have some hope.

When I first knew of LJ as a writer's corner, I didn't even realize there was due South communities. Then other fandoms started showing due South inklings yet all of them were F/K writers...and I turned away in disgust.

Now at least there's a place where I won't be driven up a wall.

It doesn't always help. I started reading one fic which claimed to be Fraser/Vecchio only to find out it was in fact Fraser/Kowalski. As I was reading I was thinking this doesn't sound at all like Vecchio. I think the tip off came when she wrote something about Vecchio being blond. I think the problem stems from writers coming into DS in seasons 3 & 4 and not being aware of the Ray switch and thinking that CKR is Ray Vecchio.

Well, no system is perfect. Although I suspect I would be even more annoyed if a fic was falsely advertised than not being labeled at all.
